What beach to head for in Sri Lanka?

I'm heading off to SL for a week in mid October and would like advice on the nicest beach resort to go to....

I am not looking for an overly cultured trip or one with tours everywhere etc... I just want to find one lovely quiet resort where I can have some R+R on the beach and chill....

I know that sounds very dull and unadventurous, but I just have a week off from my teaching job in Kuwait and just want a simple tranquil few days....

Any help most appreciated...

Thanks,

Ahungalla, a city near beach side in down south of Sri Lanka, has a lovely beach where you can relax peacefully. I have been there many times. If you want to relax really peacefully I recommend

Hello Matthew 😊

I didn't want any hotels or tours or any of that kind of thing arranged, thank anyway.

Unfortunately, when anybody asks about tours or hotels it attracts a lot of SPAM. I am moving this thread to a less prominent forum because of it. Sorry about this inconvenience. Spammers ruin it for everybody.

If you have other questions, hopefully they wont cause the same problem.

This is my personal opinion and it is humble by all means.. but i don’t agree with the spam thing totally.. I can understand if there are people who respond purely on a commercial basis.. but what you need to understand is that Sri Lankans are helpful people.. well most of us are at least.. Its our island culture and if any outsider wants any help, we are happy to help them. And yes..so they offer to help to set things up.. But why is that bad when the offer might be in the realms of being decent and helpful. I for one would really appreciate if somebody out there offers me assistance when i travel to their country. The last thing i would want is to get played out and believe me, there are many that do that. Most Sri Lankans posses beach properties, bungalows etc and know where to go and what’s good and what’s not. So.. like i said, don’t shoot down everyone that offers to help. They may be honestly trying to help you all find your way.. and perhaps at a lower cost than what you would pay if you did it by yourself. I guess what I’m saying is that it should be in the hands of the topic originator to decide like Cromwell has done here.. And always remember that what might look like a statement to you about your wishes to travel might look like a plea for help for us Sri Lankans. How is this possible? Its in the way the culture behaves and thinks. For example English is interpreted from left to right but Sri Lankans interpret in their native language from right to left.. Translate that directly and you will see how people can misunderstand.. 😊

I would recoomend Hikkaduwa beach - it was very quiete and calm to shill ;-) If yuo choose any hotel/guesthouse away from the center of the village (still walking distance) you can have the whole beack to yourself;-)
