Hey Guys,

I'm looking for some advice/suggestions for a month trip to South Africa. My girlfriend and I are travelling for 6 months, with South Africa our first stop. We fly into Cape Town on the 28th November 2007, then out of Jo-burg on 28th December. While we've researched some activities, I'd love to hear suggestions from people that have been there and done it! I've got a few more specific questions:

- We're looking to use the "Baz Bus" to get around, has anyone used it before? Any idea on it's regularity during Xmas and Dec 28th?

- Any suggestions for Xmas day? As we're flying out of Jo-burg on the 28th, I'd imagine we'll be around that region, if not in Jo-burg itself. While we obviously have quite a tight budget, think we may splash out for xmas!

- While travelling along the coast up to Durban, any places we MUST see? We'd love to learn to surf somewhere!

Any information would be great,

Thanks guys,

Hi Luke and Holly,

I am South Africa for 6 months now and I have used the baz bus before. It is perfect when you want to use it to go to different places and get on and of. When you want to use it to go to just one destination it is cheaper to use a "interliner". With the Baz Bus you can buy a ticket from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth and use that one ticket over a longer time. I am here as a volunteer from the Netherlands and I am staying at The Knysna Elephant Park. Unfortunately Knysna is not on your way but Stellenbosch is and there I have done volunteer work with cheetahs at Cheetah Outreach, also a very nice experience. Cheetah Outreach is located in Stellenbosch at Spier, it is a bit touristic and expensive but you can spent the day there.

The Baz bus is good. Regarding the Natal coast I would suggest the North coast - north of Durban - it is far better than the coast south of Durban. The St Lucia world heritage wetland area is a must . I would also suggest that you travel a little up the west coast if you can. I like places like Lamberts Bay and the whole west coast is very different to the east coast.

Make sure you visit the garden route, Knysna, Wilderness etc. Try to do route 62 (you can research it on the internet) and visit Oudshoorn . Try to visit Arniston, Hermanus and Kleinmond just outside of Cape Town and in Cape Town visit Boulders, Table Mountain, Cape Point, Do the Chapmans peak drive if it's open, visit Kalk Bay and go to Robben Island. You must also visit Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Reply to this

Cape Town, Durban or Jeffreys Bay are good places to learn surfing though the water is cold in Cape Town so the others might be better. Visit Blouberg beach in Cape Town and spend a Friday afternoon relaxing with a few beers at the Blue Peter ,meeting the local surfing crowd and a good chunk of Cape Town all preparing for the weekend. You could also learn to kitesurf here. On a good day you are likely to see literally hundreds of kite surfers doing their thing on the beaches near the Blue Peter
