Kindra Kindra Mosher Post Count: 2 Msg: #1 1712 days ago, April 1st 2005 | Hi! I\'m new to this forum..and have only lurked for a few days now. I\'ve had this growing curiosity about the world outside my little existance for some time now. I\'ve started dreaming regularly about travelling and am fascinated by all the diversity that surrounds me. I just want to experience all that is different so I can understand the world a little better. | By posting here..I\'ve finally made the first steps towards this dream I\'ve had to travel. My background: I\'m a recently divorced, 26 yr. old female who has just recently moved to the Washington DC area. Which means...my life is wide open! The money from my divorce ($15,000.00) has been tucked away for some time, and will be available in November. I\'ve been going back and forth between, do I save this money and use it for school?(I was married young and didn\'t go to college)..OR, do I use it to travel now? As I can\'t imagine a better time in my life to just go and see the world, while having the funds to support it. Of course, planning to return to school when my travels are complete. I have a million thoughts, questions, fears..etc...I almost don\'t know where to start. Is it realistic for me to just venture out into the world alone? Would I be better off finding a group to travel with? Yikes! Any suggestions on how to begin this quest for knowledge..as I\'m just overwhelmed with thinking about this. Thanks in advance for any advice, support and information you are willing to give. allthai Randy Gaudet Post Count: 12 Msg: #2 1711 days ago, April 1st 2005 | Hi Kindra, | I would travel while I have the chance. Many of my friends have never gone anywhere because they put it off and now have too many obligations to travel. There are many countries that are safe for women travelers one being Thailand. Food, hotels and travel in the Kingdom is very cheap and excellent. The cool mountains of the north with the ethnic hill tribe people to the fabulous sugar white sandy beaches of the south islands there is a lot to do here. Try to get as much information as possible on the internet about the culture and language first. Ask questions on the travel forums and always get more than one opinion. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me as I have been in Thailand for 15 years. I am now retired and living in Chiangmai with my wife and we love it. seacat adel Post Count: 4 Msg: #3 1710 days ago, April 3rd 2005 | yeah..I understand your feelings about travelling around the world alone..never travelled before!!...but its not complicated as you think of. | I, having travelled in Europe and america i would say it depends on your choices and how you treat your life. are you into sports..or adventures..or would like to meet people and talk talk and talk. or would you like to walk under trees or take a deep swim etc. I would suggest you take a short trip to Dubai UAE. which is very popular among tourists now.its a cosmopolitan city and you get a good start. I live in dubai as well.i could help you if you seriously considering this destinations and make your holiday as it should be without spending too much money on unnecessary expenditure. then you can move onto europe or asia. travelling and meeting people are always wonderful! austincheri Cheri Post Count: 3 Msg: #4 1701 days ago, April 11th 2005 | I agree with other two respondants...I too am yearning (and in my case saving) to travel. The difference is that I am a bit older and encumbered by all the wonderful but expensive and time consuming luxuries in my life, like a house, a job, a relationship. If you have the time and a bit of money and most importantly the desire, I say do it. It is probably the best time in your life to go see the world and possibley find yourself. You will be better equipped to go to school after traveling a bit and probably more focused. I would suggest going to the library and checking out as many books as you can find on "Women Travelers/Traveling" - they are plentiful and very helpful in developing a plan and the courage to live your dream. My theory about money is that "there is never enough and always more" so don't wait - Good luck and happy traveling! | [Edited: 18:03 - austincheri - spelling] deleted Post Count: 2 Msg: #5 1699 days ago, April 14th 2005 | I have found a great way of travelling al over the world at a hugely reduced rate. I don't know if I'm allowed to say on the forum, so you may contact me direct if you wish......<snip> | If I have upset anyone by posting this I am sorry...hope it's ok. Just trying to help some people see the world like I am. :-) [Edited: 01:47 - Ali ] Ali Ali Watters Post Count: 3880 Msg: #6 1698 days ago, April 15th 2005 | If it looks, sounds, smells like spam or a con - then it is. Be extremely wary of any one that offers unsolicited "help" in this way - there is usually something in it for them, and generally that means taking something from others. | Leon: if you are not able to discuss something in this forum then please refrain from posting at all. Ali Ali Watters Post Count: 3880 Msg: #7 1698 days ago, April 15th 2005 | I've removed Leon's account - basically it is a company selling fake travel agent id's (at $400 a pop). I don't know what the legal situation would be if you got caught using the id - probably nothing (impersonating a travel agent is not a criminal offence as far as I know) - but travelblog.org is not a venue for promoting such activity. | [Edited: 04:26 - Ali ] Number of Users: 6 | Number of Posts: 7 | |||||||||||||||
