The Petronas Towers Skybridge links the two on the 41st floor. * To learn more about the history of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia, go to the National History Museum in the Colonial District. * The Batu Caves, 13km away from Kuala Lumpur are great for wildly differing reasons. The Dark Cave is a hotspot for spelunking, whilst Temple Cave contains a Hindu Shrine that is visited by almost a million pilgrims in January and February each year. Each climbs a flight of 272 steps to get there. Melaka travel facts and trivia * Melaka is Malaysia’s main port, and has been highly prized by many foreign nations over the years. The Portuguese took it in 1511, the Dutch in 1641 and the British in 1795. * The Stadhuys in Melaka is thought to be the oldest Dutch building in the Eastern hemisphere. It is home to Melaka’s Historical Museum, Ethnographical Museum and Literature Museum (the Marrakech Museum in Morocco is also good!) Malaysian Borneo travel facts and trivia * Evidence of human life dating back 40,000 years has been found in Malaysia. Before the skull was found in the Niah Caves of Sarawak, it was thought that people had only been living in the region for 10,000 years. * From 1838 until after the Second World War, a large chunk of Sarawak was ruled by a British family, independent of the British government. James Brooke helped Brunei fend of a rebellion, and was given the huge swathe of land to rule over in return. He appointed himself Raja Brooke, and three generations of his family ruled over the area. * The Sarawak Chamber in the Gunung Mulu National Park is the largest cave in the world. The park is near the border with Brunei. * Mt Kinabalu in Sabah is the highest mountain between New Guinea and the Himalayas. Malaysia travel facts and trivia * Malaysia borders Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore and Thailand. * Malaysia only became a country in 1963, when Sarawak and Sabah in the north of Borneo elected to join the newly independent Malaya in a union. chandrahas chandrahas dabke Post Count: 1 Msg: #2 131 weeks ago, June 25th 2007 | Hi, | I would like to know the best things to shop in Malaysia Regards. You can always go to Central Market in Kuala Lumpur, Central Marker in Kota Kinabalu and even souvenirs shops in Penang. Try to avoid buying in a hotel since its quite pricey. | source: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061115235213AANzPYe dan23my danny Post Count: 2 Msg: #4 130 weeks ago, June 27th 2007 | recomended come to visit Penang <Malaysia> if u wanna shop n hav ur beach holidays :) | dan23my danny Post Count: 2 Msg: #5 130 weeks ago, June 27th 2007 | Penang for the fun-loving and outdoorsy tourist, there are numerous beaches, fishing villages, nature trails, recreation forest and waterfalls. If you find touristy spots like Tanjung Bungah and Batu Ferringhi too crowded, you can retreat to more remote but no less attractive beaches at Muka Head, Pantai Keracut, Monkey Beach, Pantai Acheh and Gertak Sanggul. | [Edited: 08:04 - Ali ] Number of Users: 3 | Number of Posts: 5 | |||||||||||||
