Advise sought for travel itinerary to Italy

Hi,

I'm a girl living in Singapore, and a couple of friends and I are thinking of backpacking in Italy for about 10 days, and if possible squeeze in 2 days in Paris.

We\\\'re thinking of flying in from Rome and out from Paris (tentative) otherwise we will be flying out from Milan.

Just bouncing of ideas on my itinerary, and would end of november, towards early december be a good time to visit Italy.

Day 1: Morning Arrival in Rome
Day 2: Vatican
Day 3: Rome - leaving for Florence in the afternoon, stopover at Pisa
Day 4: Florence
Day 5: Florence - leaving Florence at night for Venice (sleeper train)
Day 6: Venice
Day 7: Venice
Day 8: Leaving Venice for Milan
Day 9: Leaving Milan for Paris
Day 10: Euro Disney
Day 11: Leaving Paris for Singapore

Any comments on the itineray? Are there any nice place to stop by and explore during the \\\"Italy\\\" leg of the trip, as we make our way from the major cities? Would it be better if I were to leave France out of the itinerary totally, as it will be a pretty long leg of the trip? Is Euro Disney worth making a trip to experience?

As none of us have ever been to Europe, we would really appreciate if any one could give us any tips and advise. Thanks!!!! Cheers! Reply to this

You seem to be squeezing in quite a lot in a short time. I personally wouldn't bother with Milan as there isn't much to see there compared to Rome and Florence. I have never been to Euro Disney but, if I was going to Paris for a day, I would definitely want to see the sights of the city rather than waste time at a theme park.

Hi Andy,

I know our itinerary is over ambitious. I think ultimately, we would cancel France from the trip and just explore Italy more thoroughly.

Do you or anyone know of any nice towns to stop by in Italy that you guys can recommend.

I would really appreciate that. Should I allocate more time to Florence? Reply to this

Oh man, there's so many great places to see in italy. My reccomendation for finding great places to see is to look around using google earth. There's a website called exploreglobe.net that has downloads for location markers all over italy and the sites in rome and venice and such. Reply to this

I would allocate more time to Rome or perhaps Florence. There is a lovely town called Siena which is located between Florence and Rome. It would be easier to recommend places if you could tell us what interests you.

seems like a good trip to me. Personally I would cancel Milan and Euro Disney and spend an extra day in Rome and maybe Paris. In November the more north you go the worse the weather will get. I would also try and stay in apartments rather than hotels as as you'll get more of a flavour of city this way. Reply to this

thank you all for your input

Andy, we're more interested in the history and culture of the place - exploring sites that are not usually on the usual itineraries of travel agents.

I heard that venice has a ghost tour at night that you can sign up for and in florence there is a tour that brings you to all the hidden tunnels and stuff. Anyone know anything about them?

all your help is greatly appreciated. as it will be our first trip to italy, we really do want to get in as much as we can, understanding the place and lifestyle. Are the apartments really pricey?

i have been to italy onece before and spent 17 days there which i fitted a lot into. perhaps u should consider landing and leaving from same palce as me and my friend have found the extra costs of having different airporsts is a pain and u wont be able to do it yourslef you'll have to go through travel agets or u will be ripped off.

top deck tours offer really good tours that go for about 12 days where u get a lot of free time to do wat u want, but without the hassle of finding accomodation and trasport, as im guessing u probably dont have an international passport its smart to note that i have been told numerous times it is just not safe for girls to travel alone in europe, especailly on trains.

best places i went to in italy were florence, san vincenzo, lucca. i spent 3 days in rome which was easily enough. explore the vatican alone dont take a guide they dont let you get the full expreience.

november is a good time to travel if u like cold weather. not for me. june july august is summer and it rocks 😊

Hi there!! we're going on a topdeck tour in July for 20 days around europe and Italy and France are main destinations. I know topdeck do other tours that are shorter but obviously dont take in as much. The highlights are briefly,

PARIS - a night light light tour of 'The City of Lights', a cruise along the river seine, the Place de la Concorde, Chaps Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, The Georges Pompidou Centre, the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, shopping on Rue de Rivoli, cabaret show at the famous 'Paradis Latin', the French Riviera, local french perfumeries,..

NICE - french riviera, local french perfumeries, promenade des Anglais, onto the Principality of Monaco and the Monte Carlo Casino..

ITALY,
FLORENCE - Ponte Vecchio, Duomo Cathedral, Uffizi Gallery, Santa Croce - the burial place of Michelangelo, shops, markets, leather demonstration, Walter's Gold and Silver shop, Michelangelo's 'David',..

ROME - St Peters Cathedral, Colusseum, Vatican, painting of sistine chapel, spanish steps, Trevi fountain, Piazza Navona, Victor Emmanuel Monument, designer shops, restaurants in famous Trastever neighbourhood...

VENICE - (through Tuscany, via Verona to see Juliets balcony) visit up Grand Canal, St Marks Square Bridge of Sighs, Doges Palace, the Campanile, the Rialto Bridge, demonstration of Venetian Lace making, ride on a gondola through the canals..

I know this might not be what ur after and theres obviously a lot more to both france and italy but thought it might give you some ideas. A lot of our trip is walking tours around the different cities too so that might be a good option for you when u are there. Hope you have a great trip! We're so excited about ours!! :D:D:D

I'm Pasquale from Italy. Personally I think that it's very difficult to visit all those places in just few days... I have been many times to Rome and I spent 10 days in Paris.. and I think that Rome is so big that they need at least 3 days to visit all the city... and Paris as well.... I have been many times to Milan... There are not a very special historical places to visit up there... I think they can leave PIsa and Venice (it's very far from Milan... 300KM to east and then other 300KM to come back... I think it's not worth to do a so long jurney there for just 1 day... and the city is very expancive and the ferry as welll.....). Personally i'LL spend more time in Rome and Paris...Maybe its' worth to stop to see Florence.... Reply to this
