Do Movies influence where you travel to ?
B Posts: 4
Has a movie or would a movie influence you to travel to a particular place ? eg. Ireland & The Quiet Man or Ryan's Daughter, Scotland & Braveheart, New Zealand & Lord of the Rings, Thailand & The Beach, The Bahamas & Casino Royale etc.
Has or would a movie influence what you do or where you go whilst at the destination ? (eg. visiting filming locations, taking movie tours etc).
I also have a dedicated blog on this interesing topic at:

Would love to hear the thoughts and opinions of more fellow travellers on this.

I felt it was disappointing to go sightseeing with too much imagination. I never really found the things i was looking for.
films have sparked off too many fatacies to me. (especially historic or ancient setting genres)
however, the truth is that everything has been mordenized and standardized. I felt everywhere is pretty much the same and I am afraid that I could hardly taste any exostic, nature or primitive things any more:(

I have a very large wish list which is growing all the time of places I want to go weather I've seen a movie, documentary or read a magazine article or a fiction novel. I went to Las Vegas for work once and it was strange spending a couple of days on the strip in Las Vegas though as you can't help but having seen most of the place on film at some point even though I didn't activley seek it out after having seen a movie. I find I'm more inclinded to seek out books/movies about a place I've visited to rediscover that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you discover a place for the first time.

when I was little, a documentary titled 'the impposible jounrney' inspired me to go challenging that famous monstrous Sahara dessert one day, while, as growing up, I gradually found out my incapability of making it. speaking to the reason, genetically, I was not able to grow camel's bumps out on my back :P Reply to this

Don't forget about this place in Morocco called Ouarzazate. It is where Babel, Kingdom of Heaven and Gladiator were all filmed. Just a bit info I think worth sharing... =) Reply to this
