Need help to plan my travel to Rome.
I haven't travelled around much and I need some help planning my trip to Rome.
What would be the best time to visit? I need information on budget accomodations, just a place to stay or a bed and breakfast place.
What are the must see places in and around Rome?
Anyone else planning a trip there ?
Reply to this My girlfriend and I are planning to visit Rome in early July for a few days, and so I am also interested in advice about what parts of the city I should start looking for a place to stay, and what we should do while we're there (besides the obvious attractions like the coliseum). I hear that it's really hot and crowded there in the summer, though, so we might try to find a place with air conditioning. Can anyone provide us with some advice? Thanks!
Reply to this July does get hot so I would try and get something with air-con. Personally I think the best place to stay is around either Piazza Navona, Campo dei fiori or Trastevere which is just over the river. You'll find the cheaper accommodation would be around the Vatican, Trastevere and Termini station. Some of the best deals for accommodation is an apartment and I've used this company many times
Rome apartments They've got properties all over Rome.
Apart from the obvious attractions, Rome's most known for the piazza's and street life. It's a walking museum so don't be afraid to explore. You'll get away from the crowds and find some of the best restaurants and cafes this way.
Reply to this I am going to Rome for a few days later this month - I think this is one of the best times of the year to go as it does not get as hot or crowded as it does in July and August. I have some information about some of the tourist attractions in Rome on my website at
Europe Travel Planner.
I hope you enjoy your trip as in my opinion Rome is one of the world's greatest cities.
Reply to this I absolutely LOVE Rome. Been there a few times now and in my opinion its one of Europe's most incredible cities (and I've been to my fair share). Rome does get VERY hot in summer, though not unbearably so. The obvious sights you shouldn't miss are the Flavian Ampitheatre (Colosseum), the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and of course Vatican City and the Cistine Chapel. However the other obvious thing about Rome is that the entire city is covered in ancient Roman ruins which are simply incredible.
My personal advice would be to stay well within walking distance of the Colosseum and Vatican City, and then you'll be pretty close to everything you'll want to see. At the Colosseum you'll be approached by guides (take your passport, you may be eligible for a discount). I would highly recommend you take a guided tour because you'll learn so much more, we also got a guide around some other local Roman ruins which we would not have even known where there were it not for the tour.
As for accommodation, we stayed in a very cheap but perfectly pleasant apartment near the station, though I recall it was a nightmare to find it and in the scorching hot weather and with rucksacks it was a bit of a nuisance. Depending on your budget you might want to stay in a
holiday home, I've stayed at some here and they were very reasonable and incredibly convenient.
Good luck and enjoy your holiday!
Reply to this I would agree with Richone8, one of the best things to do in Rome is to just wander around and explore the city. Around virtually every corner there is something interesting - whether it's a statue, fountain, Roman ruin, piazza or old church.
Also don't try and see everything if you just have a limited amount of time. You will end up exhausted!

Rome Reply to this Why not have a sneek preview before you go, live webcams are a great way to see the city, weather and famous attractions.

This webcam is installed at the Roman Forum Hotel, modern hotel complex with air con. The above url links through to the hotel, they have a multi lingual website.
Enjoy!
Reply to this I would try to avoid staying in the area around Termini station. There are lots of cheap hostels here but many of them have a (very) bad reputation. Also, it is not particularly safe here late at night.
Rome Hotels
Reply to this you can try to find some info there:

have a nice holidays 😊
Reply to this I'v been to Rome several times. Went in Feb, March and November. Nice weather and prices are cheap. I'll be going back in November 2007 and this time I made all my own arrangements. Booked the flight through Delta and book 2 star hotels near the train stations. The hotels are booked are great, stay in them each time I go. Very clean, nice staff and centrally located. As far as must sees, the Coloseum, St. Peter's, the Roman Forum. We took a Scavi tour under St. Peter's which was cool and then visited one of the Christian catacombs. Just walking around Rome and discovering hidden treasures is fun. Relax, enjoy and have fun.
Reply to this The hotel in Rome is Hotel Contillia. I also stayed in Hotel Max and Ariana B&B. In Venice I always stay at Hotel Arcadia. It is located in the Canneregio section of Venice. Hope this helps.
Reply to this I suggest you to avoid the hotels near the railway station termini and to book
hotels near the spanish steps which are not expensive and if you have time to search I am sure you can make a deal, especially from the month of July.
Reply to this i suggest you to have a look on internet , rome is full of agencies for short rental, hotels are quite expensive!
ive tried an apartment in trastevere called palazzi dei mori and the agency is called www.theapartment.it!

Reply to this No other city comes close. It may no longer be caput mundi (capital of the world), but Rome is an epic, bubbling-over metropolis harbouring lost empires. One visit and you’ll be hooked. Rome has a glorious monumentality that it wears without reverence. Its architectural heirlooms are buzzed around by car and Vespa as if they were no more than traffic islands.

The city bombards you with images: elderly ladies with dyed hair chatting in Trastevere; priests with cigars strolling the Imperial Forums; traffic jams around the Colosseum; plateloads of pasta in Piazza Navona; sinuous trees beside the Villa Borghese; barrages of pastel-coloured scooters revving up at traffic lights as if preparing for a race.
