In North America a company I have featured before is BellTours in Canada. They represent all kinds of canal, barge and river journey opportunities across Europe and the USA They are highly reputable and represent the better such trips. They can be found at www.belltours.com Click on their small boat cruising and that may help you. They are very familiar with the mature market both the younger more energetic ones and those looking for something sedate. Either or. I've done the Llangollen Canal, the Shropshire Union, the River Wey and some of the Staffordshire & Worcestershire. For research, Nicholson publish seven 'Guide to the Waterways' using Ordnance Survey maps. They have exhaustive detail on pubs, sights, boatyards etc on each stretch of canal. A few words of warning - manually-operated locks are hard work for two people, three or more is better. Traditional narrowboats are quaint and cosy, but the driving position is exposed and may not have a seat. And a week is a long time on a canal, you travel slowly and uwind fast! | Number of Users: 3 | Number of Posts: 3 | |||||||||||
