Pewi Pernille Willumsen Post Count: 2 Msg: #1 140 weeks ago, April 9th 2007 | Am planning to go to Morocco for 2-3 weeks in juli and would very much like some god advice from more experienced Morcco-travellers. We are planning on getting around by train and bus and would like to visit some of the bigger cities like Casablanca, Marrakesh, Fez or Rabat. But we probably dont have time to see them all - so any sugestions on wich of the cities that we just cant mis? And about beautiful beachplaces....have only read about Agadir, but it sounds rather touristic....so tips on good beaches are also very welcome. Hope you will share your travel-experiences - thanks. | Pernille Falc JT Post Count: 37 Msg: #2 140 weeks ago, April 9th 2007 | The southern beaches (Yes, Agadir, but also those outside of the Euro tourist traps) are very beautiful, and a pleasure if you surf. (If you do not, that is not the place to learn!) | IF you're to go to Marrakesh, hurry, as it can become very hot. Take the "Midnight Express" and book a bed or you will arrive too exhausted and loose a precious day. Ask to be taken to the Casbah, and do not pay the prices they ask initially. Any more than 2 Euros is obscene, even when gasoline is expensive. You'll be enjoying prices without the VAT, and you'll be enjoying a great exchange rate. Try not to mess that up by paying too much. Rooms in Marrakesh are .. interesting. Again, best to hurry, as you don't want to be roasting the whole time. There is a German couple of guys who have a place in the Casbah - not cheap, but very high quality... Martyn Warner-Heyes . 00212 0 71234628 (last time I was there) beachmartyn@hotmail.com .... NOT cheap, but very nice, if you have the money to spare. If you come in July, it will definitely be hot in Marrakesh. My advice is to stay on the coast as much as possible during the hot months. Book 2 days and one night in Marrakesh. See the Casbah, the Souk (Market) and the like, sleep, spend the 2nd day wandering about, then take the Night Train back out again. The fair is most reasonable with the sleeper bed. NOTE: They will take your passport in the sleeper car, as they lock it up and need to have the documents for everyone so as not to disturb you while (if) you sleep. This is entirely normal, and they will return it to you in the morning. If you will be coming back home thereafter, you mgiht want to make Marrakesh your last stop, buy souvenirs there on the way back home. I could dvise you better if I knew how you're arriving, etc. If you're in Europe and not flying directly to Casablanca, fly into Malaga and then take the ferry to Tangiers (from Algiceras). It IS possible to take the train all the way to Algiceras from Madrid. You simply have to take the local train around Cordoba. If you tell me more about what you have planned, I can be of more help. We will be flying to Casablanca - so we will probably stay there for 1 or 2 nights, then to take your advice travel along the coast for maybe 1 and a half weeks (and hope to find some not too touristic places :0) and then by train to Marrakesh for a few days and probably fly home from there. If you know any specific beachplaces it would be great. Otherwise just thaks so much for taking the time to answer me. | Pernille AJC AJC Post Count: 12 Msg: #5 140 weeks ago, April 13th 2007 | Check out Essouira, on the coast for a great beach. The Medina can be a bit touristy but if you delve deep enough in to the Medina it is really interesting and easy to stay on for longer than anticipated. We took public transport from North to South... trains are by far the easiest. Buses tend to take forever as the constantly stop for anyone who flags them down. However, from Essouira to Marrakesh there is a great bus (a tourist bus but still quite cheap), which we treated ourselves to. | rconpascua Rcon Franchesca Pascua Post Count: 46 Msg: #6 139 weeks ago, April 13th 2007 | I suggest you go see and explore Marrakech, Fez, and Casablanca. For souk markets and shopping marathon, Marrakech is the place for you. As for historical sites, check out Fez. For more modern surroundings, head to Casablanca. | Number of Users: 5 | Number of Posts: 6 | ||||||||||||||
