Hey guys,
just need a little advice from Sydney residents/travellers. I'm a Canadian who's been in Australia for the past 8 months and am suffering from hockey withdrawl. Anybody know of any pubs in Sydney that are showing NHL playoff games this year? Any advice would be much appreciated and I'll shout you a beer if I see you there.
Reply to this I empathise with your situation, I had the same cricket withdrawal symptoms whilst in Taiwan for 4 months last year, but was fortunate to find two places that did show some of my favourite sport!
The cable TV provider that shows the ice hockey in Sydney is Fox Sports. If you find a pub who show Fox Sports on their TVs, then that is a start. Assuming there is not another higher-priority sport on at the time (cricket, AFL, rugby union or league) then you should be able to request a channel change.
However, due to all of these other high profiles sports on at the moment (an unusual situation due to the Cricket World Cup) Ice Hockey, according to my Foxtel guide I'm reading in Brisbane, has been shunted to some awful time slots - such as 1am, 3am or 4am in the morning. All is not lost, for starting in the last week in April (when the World Cup is finishing) the Ice Hockey moves to more resaonble hours such as 3pm in the afternoon. As I remember, Fox Sports normally show the Stanley Cup matches live, but my viewing guide for May has not arrived yet.
Reply to this I know, I am a recent resident to NSW and would love to watch some playoff games in a pub with other hockey fans....let me know if you come up with something!!!!
