I recently posted on a country that being Armenia. I am neither religious nor Armenian but for anyone who has a historical perspective this is a great visit. The Country has been ravaged over the centuries by continual occupation of almost all leading culprits of time. The Country is left with a mix that crys out for exploration. From Pagan temples, monastaries, churches, bridges, cities, there is a sense of a "living museum" In fact that is what their travel literature describes Armenia like. If you love outdoor adventure the country is still primitive in many aspects and remained cloistered under the Soviets for almost a 100 years. The only outside visitors they had over that time were Russians and Soviet block Countries. Now it is moving rapidly to a western based economy and you would be on the cusp of discovery. It is a true measurement of time. A capsule of antiquity. They also have a number of organized outback type adventour programs for those wishing that kind of fun. I had made mention of a website armenianexplorer where you can see the varied opportunities presented. I picked them in my own blog because I felt they engaged the essence of the land I had seen. Then of course there are other "STAN" countries along the Silk Road route to China you can look at. Iran is kool regardless of their politics, also Azerbaijan, Uzbekstan, Kashakstan are something few westerners have seen up close. Worth doing some DD on the area.
