I\'m going on my second solo backpacking trip this summer. My last trip was in the winter so relaxing on the beach was never an issue for me.
But my main question is how do you keep valuables safe at the beach when you want to go in the water for a dip and have to leave your things behind? In a way I can answer my own question - don\'t bring your valuables along...but I\'m throwing out this question to those travelers who have gone to the beach solo.
I\'ve heard that some areas are more popular for beach thieves. I\'ll be in Nice and neighboring cities as well as in Barcelona and some other small towns along the coast.
Thanks!
Reply to this a. don't go in the water
b. keep your valuables in the hostel/hotel safe and only bring enough cash for your excursion out.
c. bury your belongings in the sand (though remember where you put it)
d. find another person also backpacking that you can somewhat trust, and get them to guard your belongings if you guard theirs (though no guarentees on their honesty though)
Reply to this I agree with point 1 and 2.
If for some reason I've got something valuable with me, and need to leave it unattended while in the water, I just make sure that I can alway see my stuff even from far away...I know it's pretty useless, because if anything happens there's no way I can get there on time, but at least I know WHAT happens...
