Is Mexico City a safe place to visit

What precautions should be taken such as taking authorized taxis from the airport?

Your help is greatly appreciated! 😊 Reply to this

Mexico is safer than many major U.S. cities. But you should take some precautions like...

Research your destination
Avoid overt displays of wealth
When in doubt, avoid traveling after dark in places you do not know well
Be aware of your surroundings and act accordingly.

I've travelled around Mexico from the North in Chihuahua to the East/the Riviera Maya region, and it was safe (i.e. I didn't get robbed, slashed, injured, etc). Like what robert04 said, take precautions and you'll be fine.

If you're taking long distance/overnight buses you may want to consider keeping your belongings close to you, i.e. not in the overhead compartments, because that's where thieves strike first. Also, my friend had his camera stolen from between his legs, so be extra careful. I kept my laptop, camera, money, and phone in a small bag on my lap, and hugged it to sleep. I still had my belongings at the end of the trip.

Further, it'll be good to learn a little Spanish to get around (and avoid getting ripped off completely). Mexicans are generally kind, friendly and welcoming people, but there will always be exceptions. Reply to this

Another thing; keep alert when taking public transport! Transport is pretty good in Mexico City. The metro and metro buses take you to most places of interest, for very cheap. If not, just flag a cab and ask for meter fare. Ask before boarding, if not they might quote a fixed rate and rip you off.
