Me and my two mates all of us being 19 would like to go on a road trip but where? we are looking at going at the end of this year for about two weeks, we all live in NSW near campbeltown.

We all love the outdoors and reptiles as well as fishing and riding bikes and all that. One of us has a boat license as well. Finally we would probably be driving a toyota kluger 2006 so nothing too extreme.

Any recommendations on where we should go?

Any ideas would be really great and appreciated. Reply to this

Hi Alex, welcome to Travelblog!

Northern Territory - go wild boys and have an awesome time! There is SO much to see and do in the Territory and it is the ..last frontier...its wild and untamed and theres adventure everywhere.

I think a boys trip to the territory for you and your mates is an excellent idea, QLD is also beautiful but you will find big cities and as you are from NSW why not try something different and go somewhere massively empty..which includes half of Darwin CBD most of the time 😊

The roads are all sealed, theres plenty of fuel along the way now so highly doable in the Kluger. Id recommend Kakadu, Mataranka hot springs, Humpty Doo which are all within reach, with more time id throw in Katherine as well...depending on the time of the year you are there and if it interests you you may find some communities like Oenpelli will be open for just one day in Arnhem land...amazing rock art that is rarely seen.

On the way home take the inland road and camp at Alice - keep us updated with your plans Alex. Reply to this

The Northern Territory can be a bit boring. Try somewhere in Queensland like Stradbroke Island? You can camp and do the whole outdoor thing. Reply to this

If you want water based activities, then I would recommend Queensland - beaches, boats, rivers.

However, if you are wanting an all round outdoor experience, I am going to second the Northern Territory. Very good driving conditions due to roads, but be careful overtaking road trains and watch for the unfenced cattle which seems to appear are irregular intervals on the road.

Mataranka Hot Springs are wonderful, I stayed at the camping ground there, and Katherine Gorge is beautiful. Add to this Kakadu, Uluru, Kata Tjuta and King's Canyon and their is some wonderful outdoor areas.

Put it simply, Queensland and New South Wales do share common scenery, but the Northern Territory is a very different experience - it is my favourite part of Australia to travel.

However, be aware that at that time of year (December/January) is summer, so both North Queensland and the the northern part of the Northern Territory will be right in the middle of the sticky, humid summer conditions. Central Australia will be experiencing that summer heat as well. In that regard, the central and southern parts of the Queensland coast will be more pleasant temperature wise. Reply to this

Boys, I definately would recommend NT, but with only 2 weeks up your sleeves, I think it might be better settling for QLD. Spend some time in Airlie Beach, a trip to the reef, a night or 2 on an island before heading up to Cairns. Great sceanery and lots for young-uns to do. Reply to this
