Things to see and do in Northern Finland.
I am wanting to take a trip back to Finland in the next 3 months. The trip will probably be about 4 days, I will be based at Rovaniemi, but I would very much like to go to Oulu. Can you recomend the cheapest way to travel (from UK) and what I should see and do in Oulu? I was planning to fly into Helsinki and go straight to the North. I was wondering what the most practical way to get there is, in your experience. I have not been to Oulu before, so what should a 'first timer' do there? And also, what did I miss in Rovaniemi the last time I was there? Things outside the town itself (apart from the obvious!) or hidden gems.
Reply to this One very special place is calles Kemi. That is a small town and during winter there is world's biggest Snow Castle. Also one can take a short tour onboard of icebraker Sampo.
Reply to this I recommend you to take the night train from Helsinki. Flying is the option (faster, but more expensive).
The trains are leaving from Helsinki 7.26 PM and you will reach Rovaniemi at 7.53 AM.
Also, it is easiest to take a train from Rovaniemi to Oulu and again the night train from Oulu to Helsinki. You can check the connections from here:
