How can i have an independent Tibet tour?

Hello Friends,
My grilfriend and i are planning to have a tour to Tibet, but informed that we can\'t travel in Tibet independently, instead, we want apply for a permit and have a tour guide escorted everyday. Is that true?

Hello Montana 
The short answer is you cant travel independently in Tibet. You would need to book a tour with a travel agent.
The good news is that a tour group can consist of just 2 people, so you and your girlfriend could go with just each other on the tour. The bad news is the tour guide comes everwhere with you. I heard from other travellers, that the guide will even sit outside you hotel room, while you are in there and you wont be able to have a private converstation with any Tibetans.
