Hi everyone,
I have an urgent question if anybody can help!
I am a US citizen currently visiting my boyfriend in Barcelona and I want to extend my ticket so I can stay longer , but NOT over staying the 90 days (just 88 ;))
The problem is I have a family vacation planned and I am returning to Europe via Amsterdam on June 2nd -- only 70 days in between. I have read that you have to wait at least 90 days to re enter, so the question/s are:
Should I risk it? Are they very strict on this? Has anybody had a similar experience?
Thank you so much for your help!! Reply to this

Hello Alexandra and welcome to Travelblog!
Schengen questions are fairly common, and the rule is that you can only visit for up to 90 days in any 180 day period without the need to apply for visas from member countries.
Thus, if your stay is only two days on this second visit, you will be okay, otherwise (to quote the Australian government site) you "risk being fined or even banned from entering the whole Schengen area for a period of time."
I cannot tell you whether you should risk this, but your visa-free period will run out and you are supposed to pre-apply for visas for all countries you are travelling to through the normal processes. I travelled extensively through Europe pre-Schengen days and the only part of Western Europe I required a visa in advance was France - so not sure what it is like now.
I would check with the embassies of all countries you intend to head to on your return to the US to see what they tell you. That could determine whether it is feasible for you to return.

Hi,
Thank yo so much for the response.
Yeah, that is what I figured, I just thought they might be lenient if there were 70 days in between.
The second trip is definitely scheduled for more than 2 days.
Thank you again!
