When I visit Cairo. I want to spend sometime in the city to see everything. Lifestyle, people, sightseeing, food, market, culture. Therefore, I would like to have some advice. Also, where I should stay in Cairo in order to see people, enjoy local food. Reply to this

Hello and welcome to Travelblog!

First of all, spend one day in the Islamic section of Cairo (Khan al-Khalili markets, the Citadel and the Mosque of Sultan Hassan). Don't visit the Mosque on a Friday, it will be closed for visitors.

Another day should be at the Egyptian Museum. When you are finished, walk around the surrounding area. I spent almost a whole day at the museum, but if you don't want to see everything on offer, it will take you a lot less time.

You'll need a day to travel to Giza, to see the Sphinx, Pyramids and the boat pits - so that is your third day occupied. Once there, you have the opportunity to obtain tickets to walk inside the pyramids. There aren't many tickets, so you'll need to wait a while prior to the tickets getting on sale in order to ensure you grab one.

For your fourth day, you can visit the nearby attractions of Saqqara - there are some beautiful tombs to see, plus you are able to go inside of the Red Pyramid without having to queue for tickets (as with Giza). You are best to hire a car and driver for this day trip, but be absolutely clear as to what you want to see and make an agreement how many hours you will use the driver for.

This is a list of the main things I did in the city, so I cannot suggest anything further for your fifth day. However, you may wish to take things slower and see the same amount of sights over more days. One thing I didn't do was to take a cruise and/or walk along the Nile. Reply to this

Don't miss Dashur either! It's about 10km south of Saqqara and you could effectively do this on the same day.

Here you will find the 'Bent' Pyramid and the 'Red' Pyramid as well as the remains of the huge pyramid of Amenemhat III and a few smaller constructions too.

Thanks Nick, I meant to say Dashur in my post, as I mentioned the Red Pyramid, but forgot to say where it was! Reply to this
