I am wanting to head over to Italy (or maybe Spain) and am wondering if there is anyone out there who would care to join me in this auspicious occasion and see the country side with me. I'm a kiwi kid, 21 yrs who has some time off from work in the next few months and am curious to know who out there has the same idea as me. Just because!

Let me know!!!!

Hey James, just wanted to say go for it!! I spent last summer backpacking round Italy and loved every single minute of it! There's a lot of variety in the country, and you get to meet some amazing people. It's also one of the cheapest developed countries in Europe to travel around - coming from London, the train prices in Italy are unbelievably cheap!!

Just a word of advice - Milan is essentially dead in the summer months because everyone heads off to their summer homes. Rome isn't that lively either, but it's still a great laugh. I had the best time going around Siena and Florence - but don't miss the countryside and the lakes too. Cinque Tierra (can't remember how to spell it, sorry!) is awesome - 5 fishing villages along a cliff - absolutely gorgeous and really nice to hang out for a day or two. It's on the western coast in the North.

Have a great time!!

Hey James, I'm studying abroad this semester in France, but basically I want to travel all over Europe while I'm over here. I've been to Italy before (never Spain) and fell in love with it. I want to go again at some point. If you're interested, let me know what you are thinking about.

We toured Southern Italy a couple of years ago and had a great time, despite camping on very hard dry ground! Would definitely recommend going to Cefalu and Taormina in Sicily and Tropea in Calabria.

Italy Vacations

Hi,

first of congratulations that you choose Italy for your top vacation destination in Europe, although Spain aint to bad neither. The three cities you have to see for a trip to Italy in my opinion are Venice, Florence and Rome, and in particular Florence and Rome have been one of my favourite vacation destinations for many years.

Within all this time, plus having lived and work for 3 years in Rome as a tourist guide, I have accumulated so much knowledge about those cities and regions that there is no way that I can resume everything a first timer should know before starting his trip to Italy.

For Rome, for instance, a top priority in my opinion is to get your hotel (or other accommodation) sorted before your arrival. Trust me that keep you away from falling into any "scam artists" hanging around in dozens at Termini the main railway station. You will always have to pass through that Termini station, whether you arrive by train, plain or bus. And they know that.

I would love to chat lots more about it but I am a bit in a rush right know and need to go out, its Saturday night.. have a look at my travel guide home page if you are interested, where I ll write down many of my experiences I had in the past 10 years of traveling around Europe.
