Switching from periodic to constant travel

Getting kicked out of our apartment

My wife and I are 30. We just found out the condo we're renting will soon be renovated and switched from a long-term rental to a vacation rental. This means we are out. We're sad because we love the condo but we've decided this is our opportunity to sell or store our stuff and switch from periodic "round-trip" travel (usually 1 month at a time every 2-3 months) to constant "one-way" travel, hopping from place to place with no home to return to.

A couple problems come to mind:

1. Some countries want you to show proof of intention to travel back out of their country before they will let you in. This happened somewhere recently. This fouls up the on-the-fly one-way ticket strategy.

2. Mail. But I think I can get my Mom to field my mail and email me if something is important. She just retired so she has free time plus she's trustworthy.

Am I forgetting anything? Any tips, advice? We work over the internet and about the same amount whether we're home or traveling. We've been doing the periodic travel thing for about 4 or 5 years. Reply to this

Hey

In response to issue 1, there are a couple of solutions. In some places, like Thailand, you have to have a return ticket to get a visa waiver on arrival. If you buy a visa in advance, you don't usually need a return ticket. If you do for whatever place, a ticket out of the country to a neighbouring one will often suffice.

If you are planning to stay for a long time in one place, sometimes you will run into visa restrictions e.g. how long you can stay. Some tourists visas for SE ASian countries are only 30 days. You can sometimes extend them. It depends on what countries you were thinking about living in and for how long.

Issue 2: There isn't much that needs snail mail these days. All our mail goes to our parents. They scan it and email it on to us. It rarely happens.
