Visa Question

What is the best way to get necessary visas?
B Posts: 41
I'm flying into Thailand in January and was hoping someone could give me an answer regarding visas.
I'm a US citizen, and I'm aware I don't need to apply for a visa to Thailand as its an automatic 30 day visa. I'm planning on also visiting Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia, and maybe the Philippines.
What is the best way to get these visas? Is there a single place I can go to in Thailand, or do I have to go to each individual embassy? Should I get them while I'm still in the states?
Thanks in advance! Reply to this

Hello Nate, I am basing this on Australian passport holders, but I believe that US passport holders follow the same rules. Thus, we can obtain visas on arrival for Indonesia, Philippines and Laos (and Cambodia too if you are interested).
The other visas are required in advance. For Vietnam, I suspect that Bangkok may be the best place to obtain them, though you might be able to obtain these in the US or by a reputable online visa service.
The best place in the world to obtain Myanmar visas is Bangkok (passport drop-off in the mornings, collections in the afternoon). Note that some websites incorrectly state that visas can be applied for in advance and collected on arrival at Yangon's airport. This practice was stopped years ago, so you'll need to visit the Embassy yourself. Reply to this

Hi Nate,
We are from the US and Shane is correct about the procedure. We were in Kuala Lumpur when we applied for our visa to Myanmar and it took two or three days to obtain. From what Shane describes it should much easier in Bangkok.
We should have applied for our visa to Vietnam while in Bangkok but got some bad information from someone so we waited until we were in Chiang Mai- that turned out to be a bad idea. We had to relinquish our passports and wait for them to be driven to Bangkok approved and sent back to us. We were very nervous about letting them go.
Laos was the quickest and easiest.
