Roddddmann Rodney L Post Count: 10 Msg: #1 3 years ago, December 15th 2006 | Hello everyone | I am heading to Peru in April of 07 and have been frustrated by the rates being offerred online for hotels and adventures. Is it better to just wait till I get there in Iquitos & pick a lodge/ shaman experience? For example, I read on this other site that someone paid $50 US for this amazing place. They want $130 per day online Let me know as I am planning my trip right now Also, if there was a place that you stayed that was out of this world in Cuzco, Lima , and Iquitos please let me know the name Lastly, what tour operator did you use for the Inca trail? Would you recommend them to me? kindest regards and happy holidays rod Poz Jeff Post Count: 43 Msg: #2 156 weeks ago, December 17th 2006 | Well, of course they're going to try to make as much money as possible...it's touristy there and many are very poor. If you are on a strict timeframe and can't deviate from it, then you will pay a huge premium to book in advance. Otherwise, just go with the flow--show up, shop around, and bargain a little--and you will save big money. | This doesn't hold true with the Inca trail; you will have trouble finding an opening--it is necessary to book well in advance. Many have posted about this on LP Thorntree and here... poz kathia2007 Kathia Post Count: 4 Msg: #3 151 weeks ago, January 19th 2007 | Hello, I'm Kathia and I'm from Peru. i recommend you , come to Peru and look around first, book your flights and your tours when you get here in April. For example I went to the jungle , I went to Puerto Maldonado, to CORTO MALTES AMAZONIA lodge, it was amazing, and the cost was US$ 170 for a tour 3d/2 n , it was included meals, the acommodation, the transportation from the airport. It was very nice!!!! I work as an independent travel agent ,so let me know if you want help when you come to Peru.. :) | Grettings from Kathia , kilo Khaison Post Count: 2 Msg: #4 140 weeks ago, April 7th 2007 | Hi, I suppose you are in Iquitos now. I want to do a similar trip at the end of July. I am finding the same problems with high prices. I'm also thinking about just showing up in Iquitos and finding something then but I'm worried that thngs are going to be full because it is peak season and summer holiday time. Let me know how your trip goes. | Will anyone else be in the area at the end of July? It would be great to find a group because prices tend to be cheaper. EcoVagabond Daniel Paredes Post Count: 2 Msg: #5 131 weeks ago, June 10th 2007 | If you are looking for a lodge in Iquitos you might want to consider EcoVagabond Lodge, I own the place so I may be a little biased. The lodge is… well… beautiful and affordable. It’s small, five beds now, and what guests enjoy most is how warm, simple and authentic everything is there. If can be of any help please don’t hesitate to write, no strings attached, I love everything about Amazonia and sharing it with travellers. You do not have to make reservations in advance to ensure you get a lodge in Iquitos, there are plenty of lodges and competition is fierce. If you just get to Iquitos and head straight for the Plaza de Armas from the airport, you’ll find plenty of offices and insistent men trying to sell you a tour. Be patient by the way, with those men selling tours to the jungle, they are just trying to make a living. We don’t have offices, only a contact number in Iquitos and reservations through hostelworld. If you want to see fantastic wildlife, and there are no guarantees, you will have to pay the price (USD) and head up river to the Pacaya Samiria National Park, there are some nice lodges there. Ask around in Iquitos for lodges or tours that take you there. Carmina, our manager, can help you if she is not busy with guests at the lodge. We are located down river and offer our guests a more intimate contact with the locals and life on the banks of the Amazon River, visit our website. Forgive the advertising and I hope the advice is useful. Let me know if there is anthing I can do for you. | kilo Khaison Post Count: 2 Msg: #6 130 weeks ago, June 13th 2007 | Hi, EcoVegabound. How far are you from the pacaya samiria reserve and how much do you charge to go there? Also, how much do you charge to stay at your lodge? Is your lodge in a village? you didn't post your website. Thanks for the info. | EcoVagabond Daniel Paredes Post Count: 2 Msg: #7 130 weeks ago, June 14th 2007 | Hi Kilo, our lodge, www.ecovagabond.com, is not up river from Iquitos, we are down river from the city, in the opposite direction to Pacaya Samiria, which is upriver from Iquitos. I only mentioned Pacaya Samiria to offer you honest advice regarding different alternatives in the area. We charge USD 40 per day per person which includes three meals, excursions, airport transfers, all scheduled transportation, exclusive tour guide, and overnight. We are close to the riverine towns, small towns, of Mazan on the Napo River and Indiana on the Amazon River. Take a look at our website for more details about us, we have maps of our location in our website. We take reservations through www.hostelworld.com. I hope you find our project interesting. You can email us at the following address: info@ecovagabond.com. | Roddddmann Rodney L Post Count: 10 Msg: #8 130 weeks ago, June 14th 2007 | Kilo | First of all, stay at the SAHARA for $25 US. It in the PLAZA de Armas area & the hotel is amazing All the other hotels smell. The sahara is new & has AC which you will need. The best thing is it is right next to the bars & stuff Also, in tems of lodges, I stayed at the REFUGIO ALTIPLANO. The location for their store is half a block from your hotel I wholeheartedly recommend it. The Shaman their is called the Gringo Shaman. Scott is amazing & the place is to die for When I was there, I stayed in a tree house with a shower & bathroom built in Scott is very spiritual & will guide you very well The refugio is over 1200 acres & you will probably share it with 2 or three other people absolutely the best experience I had in all of peru its a bit pricy but if you take cash, you should be able to stay there for about $100 US per day I cant wait to go back rod Number of Users: 5 | Number of Posts: 8 | ||||||||||||||||
