I'm impressed with both Mel's and MJ's ability to sleep on planes

I think I learned it, by starting to travel young(19). Being comfortable was the least of my priorities then, because I was so distracted by the newness of travel. I didnt need beds, clothes or much of anything, and that travel habit of keeping it simple and feeling comfortable in many places others wouldnt has lived on. I have only given up unhealthy things, such as sleeping in cold wet places. It really affected my health, even though I was only 20 when I used to do it.

We are always calm once we get on the plane because we no longer have cell phones or beepers from work to annoy us! We hit that zen state.

Yeah, too much media is just too distracting, and it does use energy to be called upon all the time by phones, ringing door bells...

I am still impressed, I have never ever been able to sleep when sitting down - plane, train, bus, car or camel. As a boy we used to go on long family drives (Australia is a big place) - my father would drive, my sister and mother would sometimes fall asleep, but I never could do it, even if I was tired. Not that I was sleepy too often, as I would love to watch the beautiful Australian landscape pass me by - it kept me enthralled for hours. Reply to this

I forgot to mention, that my flight was moved forward 8 hours, since I made the above countdown, so this time tomorrow I will be 35,000 feet up, probably having my second inflight coffee and enjoying the light reading I have ready for the flight. Reply to this

Hey everyone! I'm planning a 2-week trip to Taiwan with my mom at around June/July next year. I have no clue about travelling overseas, and I'd like to build up my own travelling schedule with all of your advice here.

I really hope I can earn enough money and pull this off next year. May I know under which thread do I post this query? Also, could all of you please suggest me links which you might find helpful?

I thank all of you in advance for willing to help me out over here! Cheers! =) Reply to this

Hello ZiWang Lim 😊

Feel free to make a whole new thread for it. You could put it in the Asia forum.

We are starting a trip soon.....it seems like it has been forever since we have been any place. Sadly, we only get 16 days compared to Shane's 60 days but we are happy to have that. You know we American's don't get large chunks of time off.
October 21st we leave for Morocco...........and we are counting the days!

Happy Travels everyone. Reply to this

We've pretty much decided we're off on a 6 month trip to Asia starting next September. We only got back from our last trip (11 month trip) in March! Plan to go to Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Borneo. Haven't decided where else yet. Will probably follow the weather.

Already done China, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, so concentrating on the places we missed (apart from Thailand - we love it). Any recommendations welcome. Reply to this

You might want to consider Myanmar and Vietnam. I've not been to either, but reports from travellers who have visited are very positive. I'm off to Myanmar for 4 weeks in December, and the more research I've done on the country, the more fascinating it becomes. Reply to this

Yes, both are on my list of possibilities. Had good reviews from a couple of pals (plus a couple of bad ones re Vietnam). Reply to this

before flight to Istanbul

This time next week, I will be in Istanbul.
This was supposed to be an overland trip to Syria, but looks like Syria is not safe enough.

But, from my brief couple of visits to Istanbul and from photos I have seen, it might be one of the worlds most beautiful cities.

I am only going for 6 days, but travel is travel...

We've just returned from our trip so we won't be traveling out of the country for awhile. But, we've got the clock ticking 264 days until we head to Iceland. Can't wait. Reply to this

I wonder if I get to India, before you get to Iceland. I haven't made my countdown yet. I go at the end of July 2012. 😊 Reply to this

Normally travelling for long periods. I love off season because there is less people and a bit more freedom in the sens that you don't have huge line slowing you don't. But traveling have big advantage too. Bigger opening hours and better weather...

For plane, I do sleep in plane most of time.

I am just back from a small one month road trip in the states. Will be in Iceland in 3 weeks and should be around Europe for another 3 months. Reply to this
