Need Some General ideas and advice about my trip to Europe

This is a little long winded so I apologize in advanced.

I'm planning a trip to Europe for August, my plans is to start in the UK and spend 3-4 days in London after that I am at a lost of what to do. A couple things in mind are I'd like to go out in to the English Courtney side and stay in a English village no big cities, i'd like to stay in a smaller English town with walking trails near by and so on, maybe its worth going to Scotland for this but I've seen Scotland and haven't really need much of the UK besides London and a Nottingham and Brighton.

I'd also like to go over to the mainland but not 100% where. I'm thinking maybe Paris or Berlin, or maybe take the train as far as Prague, or maybe as far away as Switzerland. I'm a season traveler and not really interested in doing a hole lot of touristy things, I'm kind of past that stage with exception to a few things that I'd like to see. The main thing i'd like to do when I get to the bigger cities like Prague Paris, Berlin, Geneva is to explore and get lost , enjoy a afternoon sitting in a pub and cafee and watching the world go by, and maybe doing the odd sigh seeing event..I'd like to do this trip by train instead of flying, it will be less hassle.

So what parts of England are nice?
What's Berlin, Prague, Paris,Geneva like for exploring? Is it safe for the most part during the day

Also recommendations for accommodations if anyone knowns of any would be great too, hostel or hotel/B&B are all fine.

Many Many Thanks Reply to this

Berlin is very nice, i think it is exactly what you are looking for, and it is quite cheap too compared to other capitals in Europe. And safe, with the usual common sense, in most of the centre. Great museums too, with some spectacular exhibits. Reply to this

Berlin is a remarkable city, fascination mix of history and a vibrant modern life. Not sure what it is like now, but a long while ago, some of the train stations weren't the best to hang around at night. Despite this, I never personally felt threatened. One of the great cities of the world.

Prague is an incredibly beautiful place, and walking around the Old City and the Prague Castle (and the areas inbetween) is one of the great joys of travel. A very artsy city and a great place to wander for a few days.

Paris is equal to my favourite city (along with Madrid) and it is a wonderful place to wander and explore - history, culture, attractions - it has it all. I spent more than a month there, and loved the vibe of the place and the almost endless list of attractions. Watching the world from the cafes is a wonderful way to pass the time.

Only briefly passed through (or by) Geneva, so cannot comment on it.

I think you've all sold me on Paris Berlin and Prague, which one's I do or if i do them all I'll have to figure out! Geneva is still somewhere I really want to go so I'll look in to that more.

Any advice of towns or villages to visit in the UK that are outside of London Reply to this

I believe Nottingham is one of the best city to visit in England. I have stayed there for a year, and am in love with the culture and history of this place. Plus the pub this place has to offer, are amazing. The city has everything, and is a major tourist attraction because of the legends of Robin Hood and the cultural festival held there. The city is well connected with the rest of the country and has one of the largest airports in its vicinity, i.e East Midlands airport (http://www.east-midlands-airport.co.uk/)

I'd definitely recommend Nottingham!

Hi, for your trip around Europe, I can recommend you to visit Paris, London, Barcelona, Budapest, Vienna and Prague. All these cities are amazing and you will see a lot of beautiful attractions and you will have a lot of fun time. These cities are save during the day and also the night, especially the tourist areas. For your accommodation I can suggest you to book hotel in advance. you can check here for good hotels <snip>

BARCELONA!!!! If you don't have much time I recommend you get a private our. I went to Barcelona for a couple of days with my family and we hired a van to have an 8 hour tour in the city and it was so nice that we kept him for the next day to take us out to Montserrat Monastery and a visit to Freixenet Cava. We had an amazing time, the driver was very very kind, polite and he knew a lot! <snip>
