Advice on whether to take out travel insurance - if i can even find cover for a long one-way journey!

What are your thoughts on insurance for a long haul trip. I live in London, I will fly to Italy then from there to Kerala, India I am travelling overland from India back to my country of origin Australia. I am not returning to England and I am struggling with anyone insuring me because of this, annual insurance covers a limited amount of time in any individual country and I am not sure how long I will be in each place I visit.

What is the consensus do most people take out travel insurance for long trips (4-6months, possibly longer)?

Travel insurance is necessary. In addition to trip cancellation, most package plans offer coverage such as trip interruption, baggage, medical, dental, emergency evacuation, 24-hour traveler assistance, and accidental death benefits. Some package plans offer additional coverage such as rental car damage. And it is safe to take says Umberto Tassoni Reply to this

Hi Tashav! I am from Australia too, and just like all the other people who posted here, I believe that getting a travel insurance is very necessary, especially that you will be having a long trip all the way from India. I think it is better if you check this one out, it really helped me during my long trip from London: <snip> Hope it helps!

A lot of travelers, including seasoned ones, often neglect travel insurance. They put off the decision in the belief that โ€˜it wonโ€™t happen to usโ€™. The reality is that events like disasters and political upheavals happen without any prior warning.

hi,
yes I agree as well - very important to take it even if it just for the sake of piece of mind;-) Annual insurance is really for people who go on holiday that dont last longer than 30 days in one go..You should check out RTW Insurance or backpacking insurance that is available from any company selling RTW tickets. It is more expensive I must say as risk is higher but in many cases it covers some dangerous activities like bungee jumping, river crafting etc so it is worth it if you are planning to have some fun on the way as well. Also when I lived in India 5 years ago I got some bad stomach bug and needed medical help very often and it was sorted with no problems ;-)
hope that helps,
