Hi, I have 2 months to travel. I'll be going to Guilin, Yangshou, and Guangzhou at first (and some bits and bobs around there), and then im going to get a flight from Guangzhou...i think.

Im thinking of starting up north in Ha'erbin for the Ice Festival on the 10/11th of January, and then making my way down back to Hainan, arriving on the 28th of February. Any suggestions for places to visit along the way?! Im going to be travelling mainly on my own, and would prefer to keep to the more untouristy areas. I dont mind getting my hands dirty and sleeping rough, and i have a relatively decent level of Chinese (Mandarin).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hunan is a great region to visit, Zhangjiajie has amazing scenery, Phoenix or Fenghuang is a pretty little town, Changsha has a few sights. None of these is much visited by Westerners, but the first two popular destinations for Chinese. Food is very tasty but spicy. I also very much like Guiyang with surroundings, again beautiful nature and interesting minority cultures. Xian, despite the fact that it is on the tourist trail is a wonderful city to spend a few days and there are many places to visit in the area. Hangzhou, Suzhou and the river towns in the Yangtse delta are definitely worth a visit, although they are popular tourist destinations. Reply to this

Sorry I don't know anything of Inner Mongolia, while I did consider it at some time it didn't seem to have that much to offer unless you like horse riding. Have a good trip. Reply to this
