From 30,000 entries in the recent Photobox Around the World in 80 Days competition, around 450 photos will feature in the largest photobook ever produced.

There were 30,000 entries for the Around the World in 80 Days competition run by photo processing company Photobox. Were you one of the entrants or, more importantly, were you one of the winners? If so, share your success with us here.
The six terrific winning photos and the 450 or so shortlisted entries are to be printed in a giant, walk-in photobook measuring 6 metres x 4 metres (19.6 feet x 13ft). This will be displayed at the prestigious Old Truman Gallery in London from 15 October until, I think, 25 October.
Do I have a vested interest? Of course - this photo of tea plantations, taken during my tour of South India last November, was one of those shortlisted (although I thought some of my other entries were much better!).

Congrats Mike, and thanks for sharing that event! Would be quite the sight I'm sure.
On the side, I can't help but make the observation that the only three of the six regions had "people" categories - S. America, Asia and Africa - while the more "Western" regions (N. America, Europe and Oceania) didn't. I wonder what that says about the way travel photos construct or perpetuate this notion of the 'exotic native.' Interesting. But great photos all around. Thanks. It should be an interesting event.
I thought the lack of 'people' categories was a mistake at first, but then realised that Photobox is a European organisation with mostly European customers. I guess we just don't think that pictures of other Westerners are sufficiently interesting - we generally don't wear national dress, the weird and wonderful hair-do is rare, and we simply don't smile at cameras like they do in more far-flung places!
BTW I hear that the giant photobook may be being entered for a Guinness World Record. Watch this space...! Reply to this

Pictures of the preview evening can be seen at: BookZilla
The public viewing has finished - and I don't yet know where BookZilla will be housed. Watch this space. Reply to this
