What are the must-sees of mainland China? If you had only three weeks to travel in China and you had never done it before, where would you go and what would you do? Reply to this

China is a huuuuuuge country. There are absolutely must-see of mainland China. Actually three weeks is enough for your first visit there. There are some titled tour itineraries, such as, Yangtze River Cruise, Silk Road, Tibet Tour, China Minority tour, China regular tours... If you have general idea in your mind, I will give some brife suggestion. Reply to this

Well, I am living here in China, but I have family coming to visit and I want to give them a tour that will represent China. I want to go to the big historical cities but also maybe see some beautiful scenery in the countryside. Big cities will include Xi'an. Besides the Terracotta Warriors and Stone Tablet Forest, what do you think we should do in Xi'an? And where could we go in neigboring provinces or close to Xi'an that is off the beaten path?

Personally, I think Bejing is a must see. If this is your first time to China, you should at least go Tiananmen Square, Great Wall, and Yiheyuan. Next, if you are interested in culture and history, you may want to go to Xi'an, Shanghai(?). There are the five most famous mountains in China including Taishan Mountain in Shandong, Hengshan Mountain in Shanxi, Songshan Mountain in Henan, Huashan Mountain in Shaanxi (near Xi'an), and Hengshan Mountain in Hunan. Those are harmoneous combinations of chinese culture and spectacular natual beauty. Huang Mountain is also beatiful (the second best place I've ever been to). You may also want to go to ShanDong province (the home of Confucianism, Confucius, and Taishan Mountain. You have only three weeks. It's not nearly enough at all.

But no matter where you go in china, avoid early May, Early October, late August, and probably entire September. Reply to this

Hi,

There are so many attractions in China. As you mentioned, Xi'an is a famous historical city where you can have a general understanding of Chinese culture. As for the places with beautiful scenery, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guilin, etc. may be good destinations. For more professional information, you can contact China Absolute Tours. There are many classical and popular china tours on its web. They can also customize your tour. Hope your family enjoy the trip. Reply to this

Beijing and Xi'an are historical cities and it's always the first choice for people coming to China. Besides that, I suggest Guilin, Yangshuo, Yangtze River Cruise, Suzhou, which presents different natural view of China. At last, go to Shanghai. It's a metropolitan city where you can vitness the fast development of morden China and also have the chance to appreciate 2010 World Expo. Reply to this

There are different types of views in different areas in China, if you want to view beautiful landscape, the 1st recommendation place is JiuhZaiGou(http://www.explore86.com/2010/04/11/jiuzhaigou-valley/), if you want to see modern place, there is shanghai(http://www.explore86.com/2010/04/02/shanghai/) , and Beijing is the place with lots of historical sites, the most ancient style of buildings are there. If you want to taste the most delicious food in china, you should go to sichuan province. My mistake, I think it should be late July and entire August. The reason is that those are busy travel seasons and all chinese are out, adding the fact that it is very hot in august and september. When it is too crawded and the temprature is high, you won't have a good mood to enjoy the fun. September is a little better, but I think there will be also a lot of people. Personally, I think late April, mid and late may, mid and late october are the best seasons for traveling in most areas of China, except very northern china and the plateaus. Reply to this

Setember is quite a nice season to visit China. It is autumn in China. Actually, the vacation for students is from July to August, and the students go back to school when it comes to September. There will be no so many people in Autumn. It is a nice season to visit Beijing, Guilin, Jiuzhaigou, Shanghai, Wuzhen, Xi'an, Pingyao, Hangzhou, Suzhou and have a trip in Yangtze River Cruise. For hotels in these places, you can visit the website chinahotels.hk

I would recommend spending some time in Tibet. I know it is far and time consuming, but it was the best part of my China trip. I agree w/everyone else that Beijing & Xi'an are must sees the first time around. Reply to this

3 weeks travelling in china really short, but here are some my suggestion.

1,xi'an to learn history china, maybe it cost 3 days(not only the big city),you can go to have a look about local culture too.go to tibet will be cost most of your days,we cost 1 month travelling in tibet.

2,after xi'an you can come to huangshan for 2 days(if you want to guilin in the south, huangshan don't need),also you can go to huizhou 2 days(small places, but it worth to have a look),you know the big city a lot of tourist went there in fact is not that knda wonderful, some small places really great in china.

3.so come to silk culture place,shanghai,suzhou cost you about 4 days( shanghai expo 1 day,shanghai city tour 1 day,small water town 1 day,suzhou 1 day),that's a busy schedule,but no idear,you just have 3 weeks in china.

4.left shanghai you head to guilin(very prettery mountain) cost 2 days,nanning 1day,beihai 2 days,these place nearby.

5.3 days in yunan lijiang(there is very romatic places).well just have 2 days left,if have time,I recomend to sanya(if didn't go to beihai),the oriental hawaii.

Well,it is my recomendation,I am personal tour guide in shanghai,if you need tour guide, just drop me a line,my email adress is

I think no need to go to Guilin, cos i'm local chinese and never been there before. Currently Guilin is not beautiful as before due to pollution and lack of water.

Here is my suggest:

Beijing(5 days at least, not include on-the-way time), Xi'an(3 days), Hangzhou(3days), Sichuan(5 days). Reply to this

There are no such as "best", I think. China is vast and every place has its own unique features. Reply to this
