Are Brazil and Columbia more expensive to travel around than SE Asian countries?

I plan to go away for 6/7 weeks this summer and can't decide where to go. I really fancy Brazil or Columbia but am worried that they may be a bit too expensive. Ive travelled around SE Asia and found it to be fairly cheap. I would be looking to pay around $20-25 a night for accomodation. Would this only get me a bed in a dormitory in Brazil/Columbia? Also how about domestic travel in these countries? Are buses and flights expensive? How about the price food and beer? I cant afford to travel for 6/7 weeks in a more expensive country and for this reason was thinking about going back to SE Asia again. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

Col O mbia.$20 a night in Colombia will usually get you a room with private bathroom and cable TV with many English channels.
Everyone will tell you the same thing.Colombia is the freindliest ,happiest ,most incredible place on earth. The only risk you take is never wanting to leave. Reply to this

Hey ElAustraliano. Cheers for the info.
$20 will get a private room. Thats good to know. How much would a bed in a dorm cost? If I do go I'll probably spend some nights in hostels so that I can meet other people. I'd be going mid-June for 6/7 weeks and that is apparently the wet season Where did you visit and do when you were there? I've read other blogs and Taganga, The Lost City trek, Medellin, Cartagena and San Gil seem to be the main places to go.
Can you get dinner and a couple of beers for $10?

Dinner and beer for $10 ,yes.About hostels I can't say in all of Colombia but I know Maconda Hostel in San Gil is around $6 per night.I'm in my 40s and prefer my own space. The towns you mentioned are what I would have suggested in the time you have.On the Lost City Trek you can take an extra days trek to a working cocaine factory. Its not my thing but many of the younger crowd found it fun

Hi Paul,
The more I hear about prices in Columbia, the more it sounds comparable to SE Asia. Sorry to keep bombarding you with questions. How was the cost of travel by bus? I read a few of your blogs and see that you used buses quite a bit while travelling around. You also took a boat to Panama and back?
I read in other blogs about the cocaine factory. I also read that you can choose between a 3 day trek and a 5 day trek to the lost city.

Columbia is a place in the US.My favourite place on earth is Col O mbia.My wife isn't Columbian she is Col O mbian.I don't love Columbia ,I LOVE COLOMBIA!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I don't really take much notice about bus fares.I catch so many in so many dif places I forget.Colombian buses aren't the cheapest in Sth Am but not most expensive either.I generally turn up at bus terminal ,ask a couple of companies and take the best value for $,not always the cheapest
You will have the best time and will meet some great people ,travellers and locals, and the Colombian women are the most beautiful.Enjoy Reply to this
