Please post any comments or advice you have about my plan to get from Trang to Langkawi by bus and boat, here.

From Trang to Langkowi

KOH LIPE- Unforgettable gives good information, but maybe there are other options. The Lonely Planet book for SE Asia leaves out Koh Lipe for some reason.

We are going to spend a few days in Trang, and then get to Malaysia by boat. So, we go from Koh Lanta to Koh Lipe by boat, and then take a boat to Langkawi? Is that the best way? We would spend a couple of nights on Koh Lipe, but without information from the Lonely Planet about prices and what is available we would likely be too dependent on touts and that is likely a bad thing... We will stay on Koh Lanta instead.

Is there another option besides speed boats? Time doesnt matter. We are doing it for the boat ride, rather than the getting there quickly. Or is the journey just too long, to go any way except by speed boat?

Then after Langkawi, we can take a boat to Pulau Penang, where there will hopefully be time to spend a few nights, then on to the the mainland and KL.

Also, will the rainy season hinder the boat plan? It will be August.

Hey Mell!

Although we didn't go to Lagkawi we did enter Malaysia by boat and itr was very, very easy! We Travelled down to Satun from Trang by bus, then caught a 20B Sangthaew to the jetty from where we were able to hire a longtail to take us round the corner to Kuala Perlis (1hour). we received our 90day stamp in five minutes and were free to go! Kuala Perlis a bit of a hole though but plenty of long-distance buses for onward travel.

Ko lipe is absolutely gorgeous with some of the softest, whitest sand (almost like flour) I've ever seen. Accomodation is moderately priced but as you're going in the low season I'm sure you'll get a good deal! We got a speedboat from Trang (even though we booked and payed for the slow boat!) which took one hour in very heavy seas (much leaping over waves) to reach Ko Lipe via Taratao and ko Adang, where we stayed for three days. Ko Lipe has the better choice of accomodation but is much busier while both Taratao and Adang are much quieter (no development allowed due to being a national park) but stunningly beautiful and accomodation available in Chalets or tents. Climb the short trail up the cliff behind the chalets for a mesmerising view across azure waters to Ko Lipe, trpical island perfection!

Thanks Scott 😊 Now, I am getting really excited about it. Koh Lipe seems well worth it.

If you have a blog about this part of your trip, would you post it here.
