Hey TeamTurner---noticed you had no comments on your suggested article, thus I checked it out. Rather good article that will indeed answer questions for many who are thinking of making their first camera purchase.
Reply to this i have both, but i love my Canon A650 - its pocket sized and yet has fully manual controls - 15second nighttime exposures, ISO controls and various flash outputs. With the fold-out screen you can take sneaky shots on your travels- holding a massive camera up across your face is intimidating for many subjects so with the fold-out it doesn't even look like you're taking a snap.
Plus, there is a 'hack' for the Canon digic cameras where you can load lots more software onto them like timelapse, RAW, exposure bracketting etc.
I just bought a Canon 7D which is beautiful but cumbersome and so is only for special occaisions, whereas i don't go anywhere without the A650.
Reply to this I use the Canon IXUS 80 because it's such good quality and so cheap. You can buy them for AUD 180 online from http://www.digitalbestbuys.com.au
