Snorkelling in the Philippines
Where is good to go?
N Posts: 1
Hi everyone, I moved to Manila last year and am looking for some suggestions for places to go. I haven\'t learnt to dive yet and would really like to find some good places to go snorkelling while I\'m out here. I\'d also like to find some cool places to take guests.
I\'ve been to Boracay, Puerto Princessa and Busuanga but was quite dissapointed as all the coral had been destroyed with dynamite.
Has anyone got suggestions of good places to try out where the coral is still intact? Reply to this

Hi, ive done quite a bit of snorkelling through the Philippines and i think the best place was Apo island just off the coast from Dumaguete, Negros Island. Its a marine sancuary and has been for a while now so the coral is recovering well. Not only is the island one of the most beautiful places ive seen, but the underwater world was fantastic, we were there for 2 days and we saw turtles, lobsters, thousands of tropical fish and a pod of dolphins. A cool place to learn to scuba dive as well. The diving was amazing. You can also visit Siquijor island as well while your in the area, the diving was good and snorkelling ok, but there is a certain magic to the place, waterfalls, deep caves, old spanish churches, fire flies at night and witchcarft. Hope this helps!

Hi. The best place I know of is Calangaman, a small island off Malapascua. Most of the dive sites around Malapascua are too deep for snorkeling, but the reef around Calangaman is quite beautiful and only a few meters deep. As there's no accommodation on the Island you have to stay at Malapascua and go there on daytrips.

One of my friends went to Apo Island near Dumaguete and said that it is a nice place for snorkelling.I've seen the pictures too and the place was really gorgeos. Am even lookin forward to go there too one day. Just went close to Apo island cos I've been to Dumaguete last year.
Try also to search Malapascua-one of the islands in Cebu.. Reply to this

Hi,
I you want a place near Manila, try Manila Channel in Puerto Galera. Really great for snorkeling (but last time I've been there was almost a decade ago). Anilao, Batangas is also a wonderful place according to divers I know ;). Reply to this

hello girl3x,
i will recommend siargao.
these are group of islands still unspoiled. you can also get snorkeling with an stingless jellyfish. try to search for a resort in bucas grande part of siargao which is still virgin and have plenty of lively corals.
siargao is very safe and peaceful with friendly, accomodating locals. Reply to this

I've been to Baliangao, three hours away from Oroquieta City. The water there is crystal clear and the place is not yet inhabited with local residents.

Hey, we went traveling through the Visayas for a month in September, the best snorkeling we found by far was just off of Bohol, esp 'virgin island'
