Hi, im planning my rtw trip and realized that i will be in the philippines during their rainy/typhoon season...
it has its advantages in that everywhere is meant to be alot cheaper during the season but i am quite worried.. ive never been in more than a few days of rain let alone a typhoon...!

Rainy season and monsoons, everyone, until they expriences one, thinks that it is going to be miserable the whole time and the truth is that, yes it does rain, and sometimes for a few days in a row, but you allso get lots of good weather, make that great weather, as the rainey seasons tend to be cooler . Sept take a pass but the rest is OK. Last year I was in Manila for the big one and it did rain hard and there was alot of flooding but I never at any point felt that I was in a dangerous situation.

A little common sense goes a long way. Don't camp at the bottom of long hills. Stay away from rivers and streams. Watch your overheads like coconuts and loose branchs. be wary of bridges. Enjoy the show!

I have been travelling there quite a few times during the rainy season and have had great weather, there might be heavy downpores, but also plenty of sunshine and amazing sunrises and sunsets with massive clouds and of course far away lightning shows. Like the previous blog said common sence should keep you out of danger, most mudslides happen coz hills or mountains have been logged of all their trees, dont stay in a place during heavy rain that is near a deforested hill. And yeah the prices are cheaper and places and resorts less crowded so you normally are treated like v.i.p's.( you normally are anyway in the philippines but more so 😊 ) Hope this helps. Also, sometimes when there is rain in someplace, getting away from it involves moving a few KM. 😊 Reply to this

No need to sit on the beach in the rain. You will likely already be very sun burned with the number of sunny hours there are everyday and head to the bar when it rains. It is nothing like the sun deprivation situation of a British Summer. 😉 And the rain is often warm too, so not unpleasant at all. I had to walk back to my hut in the rain one time and thought I would be cold and shivery when I arrived. But, it was like taking a warm shower in my clothes.

i have nothing but fond memories of rainy season in the philippines. it was a cause of celebration between me and my friends when wet season starts. wed play tag in the rain it is so much fun. the weather is warm and wet and the smell of the soil and grass after the rain is just glorious if youre in the countryside. not so much when youre in manila Reply to this

HaHa Abi, yes it is a british thing to stay on the beach in the rain, i see it all the time here in Sydney, spot the english... the ones sitting on the beach in the rain. Dont worry coz this is one Aussie that will be sitting there next to them, i love the water when it rains, and hey your wet anyway. Ill send you a msg of some places you might want to visit in the Philippines...... Dave Reply to this

Some people actually do that. I was reading a post by somebody here on TravelBlog, who took her shampoo outside and washed her hair in the rain, because there was so much of it comming down, during the rainy season in India. Reply to this

I bring a immersion heater for cofee and sometimes if the water is real cold i will heat up some hot water and place it in the splash bucket to bring the temp up to tolerable.

Also take empty plastic water bottles, fill them with water and place them in the sun for 1 hour and you will be surprised how hot it will get. We do that all the time when we dive, nothing like a nice hot fresh water rinse when you come out of cold salt water.

Hi redshoes! I've been round the Phils and if you are traveling on the 1st quarter of the year, then it is not really raining all the time.More rains only on the last quarter of the year.

Manila and Noth Luzon are the places mostly hit by typhoons during rainy season. If you are already in the Phils and it rains..then do not worry cos Filipinos believed that rain is a blessing. Bless You! Reply to this

Hi!
Great to find this topic here..whew. I am also traveling during the rainy season, but reading the comments above actually made me look forward to warm sunshowers, magical sunsets, and hopefully some intermittent sunshine!
I am leaving 11/4 for Manila, and will be there about 2 weeks. There has been typhoon after typhoon, can I really expect to see the sun while I am there?!

Hope so!! Reply to this

The rainy season in the Philippines doesn't get so bad just as long as you're not commuting. It really depends where you are, say at a hotel or on the beach. Just make sure to check the news when in there, usually they'll announce an oncoming typhoon that's when it's best to just stay inside. Otherwise rain here isn't so bad, when in doubt bring an umbrella. I'll update this post soon on beaches and places in the Philippines where it doesn't rain so much. 😊 Reply to this

had my vacations during and closely on typhoons and they were the worst. our flight was the last to land on the airport because of 0 visibility and when we got on the car the heavy rain falls , it was ondoy the worst that flooded manila and we were stuck in traffic in edsa for 8 hrs. what used to take us from airport to qc in 45mins took 8 hrs. imagine if we hired a taxi what would that cost us? lastly typhoon gener, just recently, it flooded again and good thing we left manila that morning. manila easily gets flooded, but there are cities south that dont get that much rain or flooded like davao city and ways better than manila.beaches in manila is hours away and not that sandy white as you pictured out. i guess rain is not the problem but flood is in manila. and when it flood its traffic.

so head south, and best beaches are found not in manila. cebu when it rains is ok, no flood, mactan beaches are near. if not satisfied, head to bohol for panglao island , which is a short fast ferry ride or boracay(but havent been there yet) Reply to this

You definitly want to avoid typhoons. The southern parts of the Philippines are less affected by typhoons, so you might focus you trip around that part of the country (source: http://jeepneyguide.com/climate ) Reply to this
