What are the factors that attract you to the country of Cuba?

Hello,

I am a British research student currently carrying out some work on the popular tourist trade in Cuba today.

I am following up a previous post examining why people choose to visit Cuba. Having already gathered some responses, I would appreciate it if I could generate a few more for my studies.

I understand that Cuba appeals mainly to Canadians and Western Europeans, so what is your location?

So why do people choose to visit Cuba? Do any of the following factors stand out for you:
- climate
- culture
- the political regime in place currently
- 'traditional' holiday factors (sun, sea, sand etc.)
- any other key factors?

Are there any crucial aspects that particularly appeal to you about Cuba, such as the food, music, sport, the Cuban people or the price of the holiday itself?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Of course, all responses will be kept anonymous in my study.

Thankyou in advance,

Hi Dan
Noticed you haven't had many responses, so here goes. You will get much more information if you visit dedicated Cuba websites such as Cubamania.com or Cuba-junky.com. My main reasons for visiting Cuba are - the beautiful salsa beat I hear all the time walking around Habana; the sensual dancing; the vibrant life on the streets; to hear first hand accounts from Cubans as to the difficulties in their lives - the responses will be very different depending on who is around - "Fifty percent of us are citizens, the other fifty percent are spies." "I love my country, but I hate the system." But if their best friend who they suspect to be an informer is around, they either don't discuss politics or give you another answer. All this makes you very aware that you are in a society which is teetering on the brink of change, but how will that change come about? I also have family who were born in Cuba and some who escaped there in the 60's, and having heard a few accounts, it makes the whole experience more exciting for me. Also, If you visit the two websites I have mentioned, you will learn about the Jinteneras and Jinterneros, which is one of the reasons why many single men and women go to Cuba. Reply to this
