hi
i have always dreamed of doing the trans canadian highway by bicycle; has anyone done all or part of it?
i had intented to start in st.johns, finish in vancouver, but now i am considering ferrying up to alaska and riding back to vancouver, sort of doing a loop at the end.
anyone interested in coming along, maybe starting next april? times variable, would prefer someone with some cycling experience, thanks.

Reply to this A friend of mine did that two years ago! He left from Montreal and headed out to Victoria in July and August...also detouring up to the Rockies and I believe maybe Saskatoon.
Most riders end up doing the trek West to East, because it's easier with the winds across the flats. The winds are pretty strong at times and so it can be slow going! Along the way you will meet lots of other riders doing the trek and will find other people to ride with.
There's a website that's dedicated to touring cyclists. I think it's something like warm showers. com. My friend ended up using the website, as well as recommendations from other bikers, to find places to stay when he was tired of tenting or needed a break for a few days.
Don't forget your sunscreen!!
Also, April might be too early to do Alaska down to Vancouver...that might be better in July or August when the snow's gone...also bring bear spray if you do that trek! It would be awesome!
Have fun!!!
