I'll be in London for a day in late November - are there any litttle-known corners that I should check out?
I've seen all the 'sights' (London Eye, Big Ben etc.), and just want to stroll around some interesting places with my camera. Which parts of London are especially eye-catching, and where are the best places to see the city from up high?

Reply to this When I lived in London I used to sometimes walk from Westminister, to where I lived near Vauxhall undergroud station. It is quite a long walk though. Vauxhall used to be a very rough place when I lived there, but I think it became more upmarket since.
Last time I was in Vauxhall, which was around 10 years ago, there was somebody with a hot air tethered balloon. If that is still there, you will get great photo taking opportinities if you go up on it. And it wasnt too expensive as far as I remember. My ex took a nice picture of my ex appartment in Vauxhall from the balloon, which I framed and hung in my livingroom, but then lost when I moved house. I could see Big Ben from one of the windows of that appartment, so you could probaly get a good pic of that from a height, and more too. If I had more of a photographers eye, I would be able to give more opinions about what you could photograph....

Reply to this Have you been up to the top of St Paul's Cathedral?
Reply to this St. Paul's is on my list of places to go... I didn't know you could climb to the top!

Reply to this One time, I made an attempt to walk along the Themes from south London as far as I had the time and inclination for. Some obstructions got in my way, but I went around them. Maybe following the Themes through London and photographing the route would make an interesting blog? Another long walk that will take you from the rough south London, through the business part, through cardboard city, to the Tower of London. I cant remember which order all this comes in. But, walking along there was a way I amused myself one Saturday, while I live in London. 😊
Reply to this There's 3 galleries you can go up to. The highest one is the Golden gallery (outside) 280 ft.
Reply to this Camden is always an interesting place to take photos - you can walk from there through Primrose Hill (which has views over London) along the Grand Canal through Little Venice. Its an interesting walk...if you're interested I'd be happy to send you some further info.
Reply to this I really like the view of London from the pedestrian bridge at the Embankment station. You probably already know about St. James park right beside Buckingham palace, which is surprisingly nice.
If you are looking for something interesting to do in the evening, I recommend the
walking tours. The Jack the Ripper walking tour is very interesting and entertaining, if a little morbid.
Reply to this I've spent some time around West London and recommend Kensington Gardens and Portobello Road (famous for several movies set there like "Notting Hill" w/Julia Roberts). I made a
video of that area.
Another day we went to the
Imperial War Museum which has lots of hardware, memorabilia, and a holocaust memorial section if that interests you.

Reply to this Thanks, everyone. At the moment a trip to St. Paul's and a walk along embankment sound best of all.

Reply to this IMO the most interesting and unseen part of London is walking along the canal from Camden Lock - Islington - Shoreditch. I once walked all the way from Angel to Limehouse with someone and it was superb. Going the other way from Camden towards Primrose Hill is also lovely.
Reply to this you can also go up monument which is right in the heart of the city - i think you can still climb tower bridge aswell - you cannot go wronjg with a river cruise either and across the millenium bridge is the Tate Modern which is free - along the south bank there are always things going on too - depending on the weather. Just along from the Tate Modern towards London Bridge station is Brough Market which is fast developing into a real hit for Londoners and tourists alike.
Have a good day out
