Volunteer abroad!!!!!!!! Help!!!

So I am looking to take a year of before I go to college, and I have been looking into doing a volunteer program abroad for 6 months.... I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of organizations to do it through, or destinations to go to I would really appreciate it!! I also want to go somewhere where I can learn a new language while volunteering!! If anyone has any ideas let me know!!

One of the previous best forums on this subject is this thread: Volunteer Community/Aid Work

Be very wary of organisations that charge you first world prices to live in third world countries. There is an online article somewhere in a UK paper (cannot seem to find it now) that discussed the high prices charged by some gap year agencies and how very little of the money you pay actually go to the country/region you are helping. Most of it is swallowed in administration and other costs back at the agency.

Ah, just found it - Gap agencies charge up to 600% mark-up.

The title says it all.
