Hi David,

Im glad to suggest you some accommodation and tours you may take when you arrive in Vietnam next year. This country offer an excellent combination of bustling cities, tranquil beaches and cultural centres with lush countryside and friendly people. If you arrive in Sai Gon, you may take a day trip to Cu Chi tunnel, then spend 2 days cruising to explore beautiful Mekong river with exciting floating markets of local peopl. If you prefer a best retreat, a few days in sensational Phu Quoc island would be wonderful. Then, a stopover in Hoi An and Hue would be fantastic if you really want to stay in a peaceful place and try the outstanding food. There you can easily join daily cooking class which offered by tour agencies.

Up to Hanoi, there are still many choices. I think if you prefer to enjoy the daily life as well Hanoi food specialties, accommodation in the Old Quarter should be a big fun although it does not offer as many 4* hotels as other surroundings. But the quality of 3* is very good. Of course, it will be a mistake without taking a cruising trip in Halong Bay. A spectacular and fantastic cruise with luxury boat would make your cruising trip more memorable.
If still have time, Sapa homestay would be a choice for you to explore the ethnic hill-tribes of Northern Vietnam. Other tours could be Tam Coc on day, Mai Chau trekking 2 days, and a trip to Ba Be lake in the northeast would be remarkable.

Here I list some accommodation in Sai Gon, Hoi An and Hanoi you may refer. suggest also 3 * $ 4 * for your references because their best locations of the attractions.

Can I nicely remind responders to this thread that travel agents and tour guides are not allowed to advertise their services on the forums.

Thanks

David,
My wife and I have almost identical travel plans and criteria as you except that it has been more than a few years since we could claim to be 60.
For those responding to David's posting you will be doing double duty and we also thank you in advance for your suggestions. We like to stay in clean friendly guesthouses with authentic decor in addition to 4 star accomodations. We intend to fly from China into Hanoi and work our way south to HCMC before crossing over to Cambodia. We are interested in obtainging the name and email for proven guides that prior travelers have had good luck with and other valuable info that you can share.
