Hi there!

Here's our transportation game plan:

Fly to Shannon, Ireland
Take bus to Galway, Ireland
Take train to Dublin, Ireland

this is where I get stuck...

How can I get from Dublin, Ireland to Berlin, Germany?

Then, from Berlin, Germany to Wolfsburg, Germany?

How would we then get from Wolfsburg, Germany to Amsterdam? Any stops along the way?

I've been investigating flights vs. trains. vs buses but I would greatly appreciate any and all input. Thanks so much!

Hello Jenny and welcome to the forum!

I would say that the best way to get from Dublin to Berlin is to fly - there are other methods, but with the number of different forms of transport you have to use, it wouldn't be worth the hassle.

Once in Germany, things will get easier for you. I'm a big fan of train travel and you should be able to use Deutsche Bahn with great effect. Maybe you could get a rail pass for the country, but that is only useful if you are using the trains a few times.

For the last journey from Wolfsburg to Amsterdam you could also take the train, and you are likely to pass through Hannover on the way.

You could take buses as well if you wish for the Berlin-Wolfsburg-Amsterdam legs, but I have never used them in Europe, so cannot comment on that suggestion.

Hello Jenny

Aerlingus often have special offer flight prices between Dublin and Berlin. You might even be able to fly directly from Shannon to Berlin. Check the Aerlingus website.

I am not sure where Wolfsburg is. But what you would do is find out if it is on a train line between 2 major Geman cities, and then take the train that goes between those cities and get out at Wolfsburg.

To get to Amsterdam from Germany, you could take a night train from a major city in Germany.

If you buy special offer night train tickets a few months in advance on the Germany train site, you could be able to take all night trains within Germany for 29 Euros including all taxes, and to other destinations in Europe for 39 Euros including everything. The train site is www.db.de
