Details are sketchy at the moment but generally I intend to travel through Europe, North Africa, Russia, The Middle East, India, China, South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada. There is no specific timescale attached as I'm looking to teach/work along the way. To guess at a timescale, I'd say 18 months. At this stage the most difficult aspect of the planning is of course the budget! I have read conflicting views regarding costs. For example, many say £10 minimum per day is a reasonable budget for India/China/South East Asia, whereas others say £30 is the minimum. I'm a frugal traveller and do not want to spend unnecessarily. As long as the most basic of needs are covered then I'm happy! Having just spent some time in Eastern Europe (Greece/Croatia etc), a budget of £20 per day is sufficient for those wanting to travel frugally. Are there any frugal travellers around who'd like to contribute to this thread? I'm looking for realistic 'bare minimum' budgets for all the countries/areas mentioned above. Thanks! Maybe you need a bit more per day for China though. Also, allow for visa expenses for the various countries. Example: I flew into Delhi, India with my boyfriend and daughter. I changed 500 Euros at the airport. That much money was enough for the 3 of us for 2.5 weeks, and I still had enough left for a week by myself in Mumbai and after my week in Mumbai I changed back what I had left to Euros and got 60 Euros. So, that will give you some idea about how much money you need for a place like India. And we didnt feel like we had to suffer hardship on that amount of money(appart from the cold water hotel bathrooms, in winter. ;)). Thailand: I was there with my daughter twice for 30 days each time. We spent 500 Euros between us each time. I've priced up visas and other extraneous costs like archaeological site/museum entries and what not. Looking forward to getting out of England again! If anyone requires any detailed Eastern European budget breakdowns I may be able to help. Thanks again Mel! I only went to the ones I was particularly interested in, so overall the trips were still not expensive when the costs were averaged over all the days.
