Off to Thailand end of January, stopping off at Singapore, Bangkok, Vietnam then want to drop on a beach for 6 days, probably need to go to Phuket for a days work, but is it worth staying there or should i head straight over to Phi Phi or even Krabi, just want to chill out!

this is peak season at Phuket, meaning to say every expensess is high, if you have much time you may stay at Krabi or Ao Nang for lower expenses and take local tour to Phi Phi Island, Actually Krabi and Ao nang also a good place to go

I agree with above...I wasn't too impressed with Krabi or Koh Phi Phi. But Au Nang (20 minute bus from Krabe) was wonderful. Didn't make it to Phuket so can't comment. In Au Nang, go up the hill near McDonalds and Starbucks for some inexpensive places to stay and not too long a walk down to the beach. It's always more expensive across from the beach.

Krabi is a great place to just chill out (no beach). A trip to the tiger temple (no tigers to be found), the night markets, and lots of quiet time. There are fewer tourists here as opposed to Ao Nang and Phi Phi. Of course the nightlife is considerably more quiet but you may want to just hang out at the NM and people watch.

Phuket can be just as quiet if you stay away from Patong and the other beach areas but it will require a little more work. We were in areas of Phuket Town that were so quiet that you wouldn't know that a night life existed.

Try Krabi out and if you find it too quiet, head to Ao Nang for a livelier time. As VanIsland suggests, there are some cheaper places near the Mickey D's. But as usual, get there early to score them.

Hello Sandy

Phukett is nice, if you stay in Phukett town. Then you can take the local busses from the day market to the various beaches and back. When I was there, I stayed in Phukett town and hung out on a different beach everyday.

Thanks!

With that kind of budget, you are sure to be able to find a quiet little slice of heaven no matter what beach you pick.
