As part of my trip to Aus and NZ We have a 19 hour stopover in bangkok Any suggestions? on new years eve, getting there late in the afternoon, our hotel is right off patpong market and our flight leaves mid afternoon on the 1st January.

Does anyone have any suggestions of the best way to spend the time and where to watch the fireworks? Reply to this

Hi Paul !

I leave in Shanghai and go quite often to Bangkok, a place where we want to move in few years...
I guess you might go for some classic tourist attractions (palace...) but if you have some time on the evening you might want to stop by vertigo for an early cocktail on the top of the banyan tree building (the view is just stunning....) and then go for the bed superclub...THE club in bangkok, where you can have either a dinner or go for a drink in the bar area. The whole place is out of this world...from outside it looks like a startrek vessel and as you walk in you discover a very trendy design area enterily in white where you can really relax and have fun ;-)

Wish you a nice trip in Bangkok !

I really loved the Emerald Buddha Temple (so shiny!), National Archaeological Museum. If you're there on a weekend, I'd suggest checking out the Chatuchak (spelling?) weekend market. Its enormous with over 15000 stalls, so they carry everything. If you're in need to be surrounded by other backpackers, Kho San Rd (spelling?) is where they all hang out.

Just remember that if you have to take a taxi from the airport to the city it shouldn't really cost you more than 300 baht (unless inflation has gone up drastically since I stopped over there last year). Reply to this

One more info....if you want to get better taxi deal from the airport to the city center the trick is to pick up a taxi from the departure level and not at the arrivals...that s what most locals do...have fun in Bangkok ! Reply to this
