I am wanting to know if traveling to Darwin is worth the extra travel and money

Hey guys i am planning on doing the OZ experience bus pass from January for about 5 or 6 months and i was wondering if Darwin is worth going to see. It would involve traveling from Alice springs up to Darwin which is no short trip. I'm sure the bus will stop along the way at different places but there is an option to miss Darwin out.

I would be grateful for any advice. Reply to this

Depends on what you want to see - if you want to experience areas of natural beauty, then you must head to Darwin - places within the area are superb - such as Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks. On the journey to Darwin, you should stop at Katherine to cruise the gorge.

The downside of course is once you reach Darwin, you then need to head out again - and the two options - heading to Broome (the next major tourist hub going West) and heading to Townsville (the major coastal town going East) are even further away than Alice Springs. Reply to this

I agree with Shane in that Kakadu is certainly worth a visit. Darwin itself however doesn have much to it at all, apart from a museum which is ok, and you cant swim in the sea at all there either because of jellyfish and sharks, so as a place to visit in itself, my own opinion is that its not really worth seeing, though no offence to anyone who comes from there. But as you
e going to OZ for 6 months, youve got quite a lot of time to play around with, so if you end up having a night or two in a town that isn that great, its only a night or two out of a long trip. And actually I would say that even the journey up to Darwin is worthwhile in itself (and as Shane says, Katherine is a good place to stop along the way) - I can honestly say that I never tired of looking out of the window and just looking at the red earth all around - it may look all the same and I cant explain how I was fascinated with looking at the same view for 2 and a half days, maybe its because it just seems so surreal. Every moment you have while you
e away will be part of the adventure - the bits in between places will be every bit as part of the experience as the places themselves, and you might find that you end up having an amazing chat with someone on the bus trip up there, and thinking, wow, that would never have happened if I hadnt decided to make the trip up to Darwin....... Im sure youll have great adventures whatever you do and wherever you end up going. 😊
