I have only been in China, but my favorite places so far have been Xi'an and Tibet. Tibetan people are the friendliest. The altitude sickness sucks, but some people don't even experience it, and most people just have headaches for a couple of days. It is also astoundingly beautiful. Unfortunately, you do have to go with a tour if you go there I think, so you end up going to TONS of monasteries and that gets a little tiring after a while.

Xi'an has a LONG history, the terracotta soldiers, the Forest of Steles, and the City Wall. The City Wall is so much fun to bike on! And the night market in Muslim quarter is festive. I would like to live in Xi'an for a while. Maybe do an art fellowship there. Reply to this

I love Vietnam... and if I had to choose one city, I would say Nha trang... I had the best week of my life over there.

Cheers,
Antoine

Vietnam sounds like a great place to visit Antoine!

I would have to say Philippines is a great suggestion to visit if one hasn't yet. There are so many great places to go to filled with history and culture like Fort Santiago in Manila. When you're there you will be inspired by the question "where to next?". Reply to this

If I have to suggest, then where else than the Everest Region to view the highest Mountain of the world. Plus Nepal also has many cultural and adventurous trips.

First of all, there are so many great suggestions on this thread! =) Some which I've seen and others I dream of seeing one day.

Of those places I've been fortunate enough to see, I had a real connection with the Guilin/Yangshuo area in China's southern Guangxi province. All the little villages, rice fields, and limestone mountains along the Li River stole my heart while I was there.

I'm obsessed with Asia right now! It's so vast and eclectic. =)

what about Cebu?
There are so many things to do there.
Go to Bantayan Island for a few days at the beach
Dive with thresher sharks in Malapascua http://www.malapascua-diving.com/
Have a really quiet weekend in Camotes
Go to one of the best dive sites in Moalboal
Swim and feed whale sharks in Oslob
Have a spoiled weekend on Sumilon island

and then spend a few days in the city. Shopping and the nightlife.
You can stay at a hotel resort in Mactan if you still want the beach.
Or stay in hotel in Cebu City. There is even one that offers sky experience adventure ( skywalking for example) http://www.skyexperienceadventure.com

Anyways traveling for a few weeks in Philippines would be ideal. Or why not stay for a few months. looking for a place like a house for rent in Cebu perhaps or a
a condo in Makati is easy http://www.placefinder.ph/
