Needing help to decide what to do in the south of vietnam
14 years ago, October 7th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #88716
Hi, flying into HKMC 4th jan and have just under 4 weeks for vietnam and cambodia, Not sure whether it is worth travelling (flying most likely with vietnam airlines) to Nha Trang and the head south catching all the beaches on way back (beach scene being our interest) or just going to Mui Ne for the beach scene in vietnam, would like to do the night on the mekong so thinking we could do that on way to Mui Ne, basically would like to konow whether Nha Trang or surrounding area is worth the travel. Thank you. Reply to this

Hello

I come from Vietnam. you have 4 weeks in Vietnam and Capuchia so difficult for you to go all the beaches in southern Vietnam. One of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam are: Danang, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet (Mui Ne), Vung Tau ...
In my opinion you should fly to Da Nang stay here one night (I am in this city) and then fly to Nha Trang and buy very low-cost car tour to Phan Thiet (Phan Thiet to Nha Trang 250km) then back Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau you can go or to Vung Tau - Phan Thiet and 150km distance to book a ticket Ho Chi Minh - Capuchia.
Have nice trip! Reply to this

Hi Steve,

4 weeks for both Vietnam and Cambodia is not a long time for your holiday. I think if you plan to spend time in the south of Vietnam, there will be many choices to get your holiday exciting.
Departure from Sai Gon, you could take an overnight cruising trip along Beautiful Mekong river . For this trip, you will start a cruising trip through the countless canals that splinter near the end of the mighty Mekong river. You will have chance to explore the delta's bustling markets floating markets near Can Tho or Vinh Long. It is interesting to homestay on of island fruit orchards around Vinh Long too. You could also save your budget if you cruise to Phu Quoc after Mekong river. Spend a few days on sensational island which called " pearl island of Vietnam". This island is a splendid tropical getaway set with beautiful white-sand beaches and quaint fishing villages.

Back to Sai Gon, you could hire a car or take shuttle bus to Mui Ne which is about 30km from Phan Thiet. These 2 sites offer scenic and tranquil beaches. But more special, Mui Ne is an isolated stretch of beautiful white sand to one long row of resorts. While there’s still a fishing village at the east end of the beach. It is really the best palce for surfing if you are keen on.

From Mui Ne, you could head up to Nha Trang, of course still by car or shuttle bus. spend a few days would be a big fun for you. Nha Trang is the ideal places for you to take all beach activities : diving, snorkeling, cruising and even biking ... Nha Trang also has many beautiful islands with picturesque beaches would definitely make you enjoy.

If you still have time and desire to check out more beaches, Hoi An would be a perfect destination for you then. The peaceful and tranquil beach with private beach would make your beach parties more memorable. Day time at beach and night time at bars or cosy restaurants in the old town should be wonderful.
To end your beach highlight, transfer to Da Nang for the flight back Sai Gon and thus you check out and explore all the best beaches of Vietnam. Remember all the nicest beaches of Vietnam lies in the south. Thus, 2 weeks is perfect time for you.

Any further info, feel free to contact me.

Hi isla and stevie,
I come from Vietnam 4 weeks and i think this is enough to discover vietnam. And how long do you spend in the south?i would recommend you should visit Cu Chi tunnel and mekong tour. Mekong you can choice the tour 1 or 2 day to visit the biggest delta in Vietnam,.And you also spend some day in Phu Quoc Island, it is so pretty, and fly back Saigon take a bus or the car to Mui Ne. And if you like the natural place, you can spend some days in Dalat the city of Love.

Hi Judy

Dalat is lovely. You can go trekking and do a tour of the countryside by motorbike.

You can arrange a bus to Dalat from the travel agents around the city.

It really depends on what you want from your 5 days. Beach, trekking, temples, cities.....

Each destination offers a different thing. Reply to this

We are in HCMC for 4 nights waiting for friends to show up, we are thinking of either renting a furnished apt for 7 days(will share 3 nights with them) or heading straight to a beach town and waiting there for 4 days..
Any thoughts on where we can find furnished apartments?
Any thoughts on quaint, quiet beaches near HCMC?

Thanks,

Near HO CHI MINH City??? depend on how much you wanna pay and how much time you have. See some suggestion below:

1 day: Vung Tau. Contact the boat at Saigon harbour for 8 usd to get there I think. Bus is much cheaper, less than 3 usd per person. Choose Mai Ling express to be faster.

2 days: Vung Tau is alright then.

3 days: Mui Ne. Contact any travel agent in De Tham street, where you can book the ticket for only 8USd per person. Beutiful beach and sun set. Get up early to go by jeep to the sand dunes and visit the fishing village. The kids there are very cute

4 days: Book a flight to Phu Quoc island. Once getting there, go straight to the long beach. The sand is completely white and soft, the sea water is very clean and especially the seafood is cheap and fresh. Go to Eden guesthouse, you can easily find some bungalows around for only from 8 usd per person. and yeah, it is very QUIET!!! no traffic around there.
Wanna have some where without any tourists???

4 days: Book a flight to Con Dao, it is really off the track, you see very few Vietnamese or Westerns tourists over there.

4 days: Nha Trang with 2 nites on the train. Do not expect to have quiet time there.
