Lonely Planet book, which includes Syria

 Middle East
Is there one which covers a few countries and includes Syria? Maybe Syria, Jordan, Israel.....?

There is a Syria & Lebanon one available. There is another Middle East one - but it is more sparse on all of the countries. Israel is a separate book, and so is Jordan. Jordan and Syria used to be in one book, but that was a few years ago. You could consider buying by the chapter online.

That Middle East one seems like a good idea. I just use them loosely anyway, and I like to have one that covers a bunch of countries, so I can read about other countries besides the one I am going to, for inspiration, and I might even end up crossing a border to a country I didnt intend to go to, on my trip.

Thanks Shane! :)

Anyone know if the MiddleEast Lonely Planet covers Turkey?

Ah cool! Thanks Shane. :)

Looks like I will be travelling overland through Turkey and then entering Syria via land border. Hopefully, I will get a visa on arrival, because getting one from a consulate is looking more and more complicated.

And travelling overland from Turkey to neighbouring countries seems much less expensive than flying directly to those countries. That is what I should have done with Iran. The flight to Iran cost 700 Euros return.

Do you know of anyone who was refused a viasa at the Syrian border? Judging by some comments I read, they are pretty easy about handing out the tourist visas at the land borders.

As far as I know, you can ask the Israeli immigration not to put the stamp in your passport, to prevent problems when entering Syria, Iran etc.

Yes, that is correct - ask nicely and they will place it on the entry card or something similar instead of in your passport.
