Hi

A week is not that long in a country - as I'm sure you know. So I would suggest not trying to tackle too much, or it will be all go and no relaxation.

You can spend a couple of days in HCMC seeing the sights. Then maybe go to the Mekong Delta on a tour. If you want to go snorkelling, consider Nha Trang, although you won't have enough time to do a whole 5 day PADI diving course.

To go to Siem Reap to see the Temples at Angkor as well will take an extra few days. So perhaps consider either HCMC and Angkor, or HCMC and Nha Trang. Remember that to go to Cambodia you will need to buy an extra visa.

How much money to bring totally depends on what type of travellers you are. What kind of accommodation are you planning on staying in? On a scale from cheap backpacker ($15 a night) to expensive (the skies the limit!). When you say "good and cheap hotels", what do you mean? Same goes for eating. Do you want to eat local food on the street or Western style in nice restaurants.

Does this help at all?

I agree a week in a country might not be enough. There is a lot to see in Ho Chi Minh City. The colorful Emperor of Jade Pagoda is an excellent example of a Chinese temple. Northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh is an interesting destination as it is the home of the Caodai religion. Midway between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh is the city of Hue, the former capital of the emperors of Vietnam, known for its beautiful imperial architecture. Explore the “Forbidden Purple City”, the city within a city with its tombs, pagodas and lakes covered by lotus flowers. Near Hue is Da Nang, city of China Beach, the Marble Mountains and the Cham Museum.
Just to be on a safe side and have a pleasant and worry- free trip contact one of the tour operators as I did when I’ve traveled to Vietnam. My trip was booked through New York based Orient Flexi Pax Tours. They will show you the all the wonders and opulence of that exotic country. It looks like you are paying a lot at the first sight but it really saves you money in a long run.

Ha Long Bay and Nha Trang is the best place in Vietnam for sceneries.

2) how to get to these places on the best cheapest rate? any tour company to recommend?
Bunch of them. Remember, you get what you pay for.

3) good and cheap hotels at HCMC?

Hey, David
The place that your friend mentioned is Halong bay. So you can flight from HCM to Hanoi, enjoy 1 day in hanoi and then come to halong bay, pay 1 night for sleeping on the boat in halong bay. after that come back to hanoi and take plane to HCM for your flight.
I can help you arrange the packages trip for halong bay. cheaper than you do yourself.
Any help, tell me.

Hi David

For a good quality Halong Bay tour, $106 sounds ok.

Can I just confirm.....you are flying into HCMC and only have 3 days to spend in Vietnam? If so, why not do a tour of the Mekong Delta rather than Halong Bay. You are aware that HCMC is in the South of Vietnam but Halong Bay is in the North? To see Halong Bay you have to fly up to Hanoi (2 hour flight, plus all the extra time getting to and from the airport, checking in, collecting luggage etc.) and back. Just for a 2 night tour. There are many places around HCMC to see......

Just a thought....

Kate

Hi,
Kate's right. with 5 days in Vietnam, Mekong delta is good choices. because your time so tight, Halong bay for the next time, I think.

Yes, the Cu Chi tunnels and the Cao Dai temple are close to HCMC and definatly worth a visit. There are some really interesting places to visit in the city too.

When you arrive in HCMC you can arrange a tour to the Delta for the following day through your hotel or any other tour operator around - of which there are many. You can do a one day, 2 day or 3 day trip.
