Please help me about the practicalities of this.
Looking for advice on living in Costa Rica for 3/4 months - near the beach id really like to learn to surf and speak spanish. I just dont want to live in a city so west coast probably would be best. Anyone know where best to rent apt etc??
Reply to this Hi there, Nobody's answered you about this yet, i see, but I may be able to help. I travelled around Costa Rica for 3 months last year. See my trip blogs. We learned spanish in a small country town outside of Alejuela. We lived in a homestay dairy farm and learned spanish each morning with the afternoons free to do as we pleased. The price is excellent and we found it invaluable for the rest of the time there. Check out ticotomtours.com for adventure holiday as well as choices in spanish. You can learn to surf in any of the towns on the west coast but the best surf I saw was around the southern part. Samara would be good but is more expensive because it's a popular holiday destination. Personally, i think you'll find something cheaper when you get there. You can negotiate if you have cash in hand. Rip offs can happen over the net. If you decide to do a spot of volunteering contact the local organisation, asvocr.org ...they have projects on both coasts where you can take advantage of the beach (after the work) and smaller towns. Prices are very good.
The best thing about CR is that everyone is tranquilo. It is a very relaxed place to be. Have fun! Lynne
