matt smyga Matt Berenson Post Count: 3 Msg: #1 76 days ago, September 8th 2009 | Hello, | My wife and I are traveling in October from Barcelona to Seville and we are wondering if it is best to travel via train or air? Any experiences on Vueling Airlines to share? Also we are wondering about booking options on the tren hotels (overnight trains) from Barcelona. My call to Eurail resulted in few choices at VERY EXPENSIVE rates. Any suggestions or experiences shared will be appreciated. Thanks!! For example, in October you get get a flight with airberlin for as little as 66 Euros. But remember that it depends on a day as well as some prices go as high as 220 Euros, so makes sure you choose a "good" and "cheap" day. There is also Vueling that flies between those two cities and the prices are about 100 Euros (the lowest I see is 90 Euros). In my opinion the prices are not that bad and you should also consider time saving. For more info you can also check Low Cost Airline Guide where you can find out about what budget airlines operate particular routes. Hope my research helps you a bit and have a great trip. We were surprised by the cost of train travel if we want a private sleeping berth. Cheers, Matt Emily Liedel Emily Liedel Post Count: 13 Msg: #4 67 days ago, September 17th 2009 | Hello Matt, | If I were you, I would look into traveling by AVE (high speed train). There is an AVE between Barcelona and Madrid and between Seville and Madrid, so you would have to transfer in Madrid. Each leg of the trip takes about 2.5 hours, and is guaranteed to be on time or your money back. In the end, it is probably faster than a plane, since the train stations are in the city center and the airports are not, especially the airport that low cost airlines fly out of in Barcelona. Overnight train travel in a private birth is quite expensive, but it is substantially cheaper if you are in a compartment of 4 people, not just two. However, the Spanish sleeping compartments are not mixed - one section for men and another for women, so you and your wife would not be together. Look into the AVE, I think it is your best bet, and not expensive at all. matt smyga Matt Berenson Post Count: 3 Msg: #5 62 days ago, September 22nd 2009 | Thank you for the information Emily!! | Emily Liedel Emily Liedel Post Count: 13 Msg: #6 62 days ago, September 22nd 2009 | One more thing: the spanish rail company is called Renfe, and their address is www.renfe.es . Do any purchasing of tickets directly on their website, NOT through Eurail. I believe the site is in both English and Spanish and I know you can buy tickets online, including tickets for the AVE. | Number of Users: 3 | Number of Posts: 6 | ||||||||||||||
