Ashling Ashling McDonnell Post Count: 5 Msg: #1 16 weeks ago, August 24th 2009 | Hi | I am 31, female, and I am travelling to Thailand on 10th October 2009 on my tod! I am excited but nervous that I won't meet people....even though everyone says I will......anyway if there is anyone in Bangkok from the 11th of October on it would be great to make a contact. I am outgoing and like a a laugh. I have travelled around Vietnam, Cambodia and Brazil to name a few places and I really like a mixture of activities. Anyway, anyone bar nutters please, if you're in the area around that time let me know. Any advice also on KSR in Bangkok - I know it's the main backpacker spot but i've heard it's a bit seedy and maybe too young for me??? All recommendation welcome for initial stay....nothing too quiet though either, maybe somewhere beside KSR??? cheers Ashling Mell Mell Post Count: 14550 Msg: #2 16 weeks ago, August 25th 2009 | Hello Ashling | You will meet lots of people. I have been to Thailand 3 times and have met new people on each trip. I dont think the Khao San Road is seedy. It is loud and crowded though. If noise is something you dont like then choose someplace else. I even stayed there with my 8 year old daughter a couple of times and might even do so again when we go to Thailand next August. There are streets near the Khao San Road which are a bit quieter but still with the conveniences of the Khao San Road and lots of people to meet. I sometimes stay on those too. And it is not just young people who are on the Khao San Road. It is backpackers of all ages. I am 40. And I am not the only 30+ backpacker that was there when I was. PS.....like loud and crowded, that's what Asian cities are about for me anyway!!![]() The Khao San Road is a different type of loud though. Blaring 70s and 80s pop music from dawn to 2 AM everyday and crowds of backpackers all over. It is a legendary place to hang out though, so a must. If you hang out at a street cafe there at the end of your trip to Thailand, probably most people you met while travelling around will walk along the street at some stage and probably stop for a drink or a chat with you.
